Personally, I've never had a problem with tiefling, aasimar, or any of the wacky things those planar people say.
I still don't know how to pronounce genasi "correctly." Every time I ask, the question sinks like a stone. Probably because nobody knows how to pronounce it.

I always pronounced it Je-nah-zee, with a soft Z sound. I always had issues with Sahuagin.

I say "JEN-ah-sai"

"JE-nass-ee" and "je-NASS-ee" just sound dumb. To me. And I can't think of a better way to say it.

I also avoid pronouncing the 's' like a 'z', since that makes it sound too much like Geh-Nazi.

I pronounce genasi JEH-nah-see.

I used to pronounce sahuagin SAH-who-uh-gin, but I've heard recently it's SAH-who-AH-gin.

I've vacillated back and forth between Je NASS ee and Jena SAI. No idea which (if either) is the intended pronunciation.

I say sahuagin like Sah-hwah-GEEN with a hard g. We had one guy in our group that used to say Suh HOGGin until we made fun of that too much because it sounded so ridiculous.

To me, it seems a better idea to use Planetouched as a race, with the Eladrin, Tiefling, Aasimar and the like as subraces. I mean, why toss out nearly eight years of material that allow players to be these races? Why not tie it all together nice and neat with a pretty bow?

Well, it can't be exactly as if it was a Spanish word---or at least it's unlikely---because the soft 'g' in Spanish is kinda sorta like an 'h' in English. Same thing with names like Jose.

It's got a nice Anglo-Saxon pedigree, where it was -ingas. I.e., Wulfingas; the people of the wolf. Would be something like Wolfings or Wolflings in modern English.
Like Earthling!

You wacky NorMericans! Why on earth would a single "i" at the end of a word be pronounced to rhyme with "eye"? That only works for made-up plurals like octopi and platypi.

(Not to mention that "jen-ah-SAI" leads to the moronic misspelling "gensai", which cannot be forgiven.)

To me, the pronunciation controversy must be over where the emphasis falls: JEN-ah-see or jeh-NAH-see. I say the latter, because it flows better with the full name of each given race: fire genasi, water genasi, et cetera.

Sahuagin, for me, has always been sa-HWA-gin. That's a throaty elision of the "hoo-wa" into "hwa".
