The Astronecrotic Heresy [Chapter 1] The Tempest Street Irregulars

"'S right, worms; outta me way," the burly-boy laughs, condescendingly, as he brusquely shoulders his way past Drehluk and Farrel, 'accudentally' throwing his shoulder into the ex-Justicar as he passes.

Following Dan's lead, both Alex and Issac quickly press their backs to the rough stone-and-mortar walls of the pub. The burly-boy obliviously walks out onto Sparrow Road, oblivious to them.

The second and third Irregulars exit soon behind him, both of them laughing and drinking from a small tin flask that they pass back and forth. They both look quite intixicated, and are having no small amount of difficulty remaining on their feet.

Their eyes go wide with surprise as Dan lunges from the shadows and tackles the burly-boy from behind. Wrapping his arm arounf the Irregular's neck and the other beneath his shoulder, Dan tries to force him to the ground. but it is to no avail; the burly-boy throws himself back against the Hangman's Grin, crushing Dan between his back and the stone walls.

Meanwhile, the drunken gangers have finally just managed to pull out their belt-knives.

Tall, cruel-faced Edwin remains in the pub's doorway, watching this with a tiny smirk upon his sharp, thin lips. With the other three Irregulars circling around Dan, both Farrel and Drehluk get a better look at the girl whom he is holding.

She is a short lass, with close-cropped auburn hair and a pretty-enough face - something immediately strikes both of you as odd about her, though neither of you can quite put your finger on it. Her clothes are plain but serviceable and hang loosely upon her frame.

She grunts with the exertion of attempting to pull free of Edwin's grasp once more, but fails. Edwin takes no notice of this - his arm, though it seems thin, almost bony, does not move an inch as the girl tries to pull away. Finally he takes a step toward the door, dragging the girl in his wake.

Farrel narows his eyes and bgins to murmur something unintelligible beneath his breath as he subtly wiggles his fingers and focuses upon Edwin.

The Irregular lieutenant arches an eyebrow as he notices Farrel's casting.

"That's real cute," he sneers.

{Dan, with his readied action, attempted a grapple on the largest of the Irregulars and was shaken off.

Farrel attempted to Bluff a spell, making the casting of Grease a full-round action; unfortunately, he did not beat Edwin's Sense Motive check. Farrel's spell will go off on his initiative turn in the following combat sequence - he will still recieve his full complement of actions that turn, of course.

Issac and Alexander - no one has made any move to indicate that they are aware of your presence yet.

From here on, everyone post your intended action in order; your initiative totals are:

Issac: 13
Edwin: 12
Alex: 12
Drehluk: 10
Farrel: 9
Irregulars: 8
Dan: 7}

Drehluk curses under his breath as his sword slides from its sheath with a metallic whisper. He locks stony eyes with Edwin and mutters coldly but calmly, "This blade has given many a soul leave to be with Anselm, but now serves a greater authority. I suggest you and your boys stand down lest you receive its' bite."

If Edwin is unwilling to save his own soul then so be it, Drehluk will unhesitatingly attack.

[OOC: Draws weapon and attempts to intimidate (+6). Drehluk will then attack Edwin if he still presents a threat.]

Isaac pulls his dagger from his boot and bellows " 'Ey, Big Bug! Over 'ere!" as he tosses it at the burly-boy. He is hoping both to hit said bruiser, and also to get his attention off of Dan.

(draws dagger and throws at the burly-boy w/ a +3 to hit)

Dan enters rage and attacks the big Irregular twice using flurry of blows. If possible, he tries to position himself so, that he wouldn't be so badly surrounded by the attackers (5 foot step). If the big brute is somehow downed before Dan's action, he'll attack the closest enemy (if possible, full attack with flurry and flank target with someone).

"Ey, Big Bug! Over 'ere!" shouts Isaac. He steps from the shadows and, with a single swift movement, pulls a dagger from his boot and sends it screaming through the night at the burly-boy. The brute turns around at the sound of Issac's voice, but the dagger flies wide of him, lodging itself neatly into one of the Grin's support timbers.

Edwin curls his lip and raises his left hand to shoulder-height. He snaps his fingers and points at Farrel; with a single sharp word, two glowing spheres of magical energy shoot from his fingertip and strike the sorcerer in his chest.

The red-haired girl, seizing the opportunity, finally pulls free of Edwin's grip.

As the magic missiles flash through the air, briefly illuminating the darkened streets of the Hive, Alex pulls his knife and lunges from his hiding place. "Let the girl go, ya mooks!" he shouts, drawing the attention of one of the Irregulars circling around Dan - and plunging his dagger deep into the drunken ganger's chest.

The icy, cruel fire in the ex-Justicar's eyes gives the cruel ganger pause - he takes a step backward into the Grin, suddenly looking rattled and unsure...

and slips on the magical grease that suddenly coalesces beneath his feet as Farrel grits his teeth and finishes his spell. His legs fly out from underneath him and he goes sprawling to the floor.

The burly-boy turns his attention back to Dan and throws a punch at him, unaware that the former monk is not someone whom he should be brawling with unarmed. Dan throws a quick jab into his unprotected chest - the burly-boy gasps as he gets the wind knocked out of him; Dan easily slips beneath his fist.

The drunken Irregulars lash out with their knives. One of them nicks Dan's shoulder with his blade, drawing blood; the other thrusts at Alex, but the bard parries the blade away with his own.

Dan, ignoring the dagger's bite, steps away from the drunk and fluidly moves to the burly-boy's side, unleashing a vicious flurry of fists and elbows into his side. The big ganger falls to the slimy cobblestones like a side of beef.
