You're going to have to start changing the name of these threads to the "tri-monthly" or "quarterly" mini-game speculation threads, because we're cutting back a little on mini-games this year. Expect four, rather than six, which frees up some pages to support existing mini-games as well as stuff like Star Wars, d20 Modern, Call of Cthulhu, and Living Greyhawk.

The next Mini-Game will appear in issue #105.

Yeah, so I've heard. And this saddens me. But quality over quantity, eh? And support for the minigames is the next best thing to a new minigame.

Early 80s scifi + early 80s cultural phenomenon + favorite Arnold Schwartzenegger movie...

(1) Buckaroo Banzai?. No, wait...TRON!

(2) The Internet? Breakdancing? Rap? Ninjas?

(3) Terminator? Predator?

Hmm...

THE NEW WAVE

1984, Earth. You and your team of two-fisted scientist-adventurers are the only thing standing between an unsuspecting public and an invasion of humanlike androids from the year 2084. The New Wave is here --- send them back to the future!

[Throw in some Tremors sandworms, some Back to the Future flying cars, and plenty of ninjas. If you're not already doing something like this, Erik, you gimee a call and I'll quit my day job and write it for you.]

But I'm getting hung up on the cultural phenomenon...unless...

Max Headroom?

'80's movie: as mentioned, Blade Runner. One that gained popularity? Alien(s).

Phenomenon started about the same time: cyberpunk. Uh, and leg-warmers (a la Flashdance)...but that's a different thread. Ooh, wait...like, Valleyspeak? (ack) The New Romantics?

Great Arnie movie: Hmm...Terminator or Conan.

* edit: Later * Hmm, or maybe Predator. THAT was a good one.

So I'm guessing cyberpunk meets the Machines, time travel, etc, like, fur SHUR ]- or -[ cyberpunk meets Crom and the Gang wearing leg-warmers ]- or -[ Predator vs. Aliens vs. Flock of Seagulls.

Feh. I'm just pullin' stuff outta my ancient "I lived through the eighties and I'm a better person for it" butt. Whatever, we'll see.

Well, you could cross Tron / video games / "The Running Man" for a game where computerized avatars compete in dangerous head-to-head competitiions.

Hey...I think that's it! Video games where you project yourself into the game!

A game about games, people!

[You should still do that New Wave game too, though.]

Alien + Predator + Video Games = :D

And I must add my voice to those that are disappointed that the mini-games are going to be coming less frequently - I LOVE THEM. Having said that, I still think that Dungehedron is great for content and for price and I'm definitely gonna renew my subscription when the time comes.

Yep. Tron/video games/Running Man.

Hopefully we'll see plenty of glowing neon helmets and protective gear, and motorcycles that can turn 90 degrees at full speed.

And no realistic environments inside the computer! I want blocky Dire Straits characters! I want to run from a 3-D Pac-Man through a maze of glowing walls!

What will it be?

Think of a popular science fiction movie from the early 80s that's gained more and more popularity in recent years. Now think of a cultural phenomenon that started at about the same time, and mix it with my favorite Arnold Schwartzenegger movie, and you've got a pretty good idea of the type of game we've got cooking.

I'd give you more info, but it's early going, yet, and that would be telling. :)

What!?!?! You mean you're not going to do the game we came up with in your seminar with the radiactive volcanoes and dinosaurs?

Darn it.....:p

Radiation and Dinosaurs? You could easily do that with Gamma World and the Monster Manuals!

"Okay... my Tyrannosaurus Rex is a Scaly Mutant with and extra arm, fur, and two brains. Oh... and he has a one in ten chance each round of having a seizure... oh, and he has bones of glass... oh, and he has no arms... anymore."

I think we have something here...

Non of the movies people have mentioned seem to me to have grown in popularity. But it could just be one of those things that I'm in disagreement with Erik on, like he thinks that Alien has grown in popularoty and I don't agree or something...
