I don't know if it is just me or not, but a lot of people around here don't seem to be playing nice anymore. The boards seem to be getting less friendly. Granted, it is a minority of people, but more than I can ever recall. So to all those people whining out there:

It definitely comes in waves, and I don't see anything especially unusual about this particular wave except that it seems to be involving some purposeful trollish behavior (not joke trolls, people who maybe don't care for 3E or D&D coming here to bait us into getting upset). In my experience they eventually give up out of boredom because we do a pretty good job of not getting TOO riled up.

The best cure for a downward swing like this is to be a positive participant. Be extra nice, contribute to threads that DO interest you, ignore stuff that's bothersome. A little effort from a few makes a big difference.

I get the feeling from reading the posts of many of these recent trolls that they feel like they are something like buccaneers, leaping aboard ship in hopes of taking it over for a while. Or, some of them seem like they think they're missionaries - or perhaps crusaders - come to show us the error of our ways, to enlighten us as to the false nature of the game we like. Yeah, I think many of them have simply gotten bored and gone away.
