The Dragons Reborn I: Burning Streets (Feng Shui)

"Make me proud... Kane-kun."

With that, Kane's mind goes into a blur of memories and emotion as he feels a solid kick planted in his back. It was her voice he heard. It was also the last thing she said to him on that fateful night. But that was impossible; she was dead, along with all the others who went on that ill-fated job. As he goes through the window, he tries to twist back to see, but is greeted only by the sight of an angry owner shouting about the damage to his window.

Kane lands on his back on the street, surrounded by bits of broken glass and perilously close to the fight he had just been watching. He is quickly snapped out of his revery as a bullet ricochets next to his head, the source a thin, wiry man holding an unusual pistol and standing next to the white van. Also coming from the van are several men armed with sub-machine guns and a huge brute of a man who seems to have his attention on Shinji.

Shinji: 9
Eiji: 9
Yakuza Mooks: 10
Kane: 11
Thin Gunman: 9
Big Guy: 10

Still acting on instinct, his mind unable to interfere with his body's reactions, Kane continues the roll and flips to his feet. He takes two quick steps, jumps onto then off the hood of the van, dropping an axe-kick across the thin gunman's neck from behind.

"Now that I've got your attention . . ."

As Jack speaks, he keeps his attention (and gun) rigidly focused on Tony.

"Clearly you gentlemen have a lot to discuss, and it's really none of my business. So I'll ask you once. Politely. Please let the lady go. When she's safe, I'll be on my way and you can all get on with your regularly scheduled gunfight. Otherwise . . ."

Still keeping his eyes and borrowed gun focused on Tony, Jack grabs a nearby mook and slams his head into the table.

"Otherwise, I'll be forced to make it personal."

ooc: A nice long speech, so people have time to act while I wait for my shot to come up again.

"Whatever I decide, that will not be too much." say Fong to himself, while trying to take the gun hidden under the passenger seat.

Shinji's coat slips back behind him as he completes the motion, its heavy cloth concealing a momentary scowl of irritation on Shinji's face. He had felt Eiji pull away has his fingers had struck, deflecting the kidney rupturing blow at the last second. He starts to contemplate another attack, but before he can start he hears the whine of a bullet cutting the air. He glances down the street, towards the white van and its motley assortment of passangers and sighs slightly. The death dance may have to end unfinished tonight...unless he can use the newcomers and their lovely automatic weapons to his advantage.

He stops his previous motion, a weaving stance intended to keep his enemies off guard that he had assumed without concious thought. He instead throws himself to Eiji's side with a diving roll, swinging his leg out in a feint of a diving roundhouse as he does before landing and immediately executing a double palm heel strike to Eiji's side/chest, shoving him towards the gun toting thugs like a human shield at the same time he tries to crack his ribcage.

OOC: Lightning Fist on Eiji, trying to get him between me and the gunmen.

Mao pats the woman on the side, "My apologies. Now, stay down!" He peeks around the edge of the table and takes a pot shot at one of the goons, only for his gun to click empy. He curses and leaps over the table, unwilling to let the mass try to bring Jadefinger down under a press of bodies.

While sprinting toward the mooks he tosses his gun at one's head while saying, "Catch," then lashes out with a vicious kick to the man's chest, not trying to stave in ribs, rather intending to send the mook tumbling over the edge of the balcony to the tables below.

<Sorry for the lull in replies. Rough week.>

OOC: Not a problem, Corinthi, I've been a bit busy myself, lately. And my first resolution: No more simultaneous battles, if I can help it. Whoo! Anyways everybody, if any of you haven't visited the OOC thread in a while, do me a favor and check it out, a couple of interesting (I think) notions have popped up and I'm dying for some more input. And now, back to our Feature Presentation.

Golden Flower Bar

Mark Huan's bodyguards finally snap to their senses and rally amid the chaos of the sudden gunfight, drawing their arms and opening fire. Upstairs one more of Tony's men goes down in the hail of gunfire, while downstairs the air is simply filled with that much more burning hot lead.

Tony drags May backwards towards the front door of the bar as he sends a bullet whizzing by Jadefinger's face, his aim thrown off by May's struggling.

OOC: I think I'm going to stop documenting mook rolls; it's pretty time consuming, and nobody really cares what they do anyways, right?

Tony's roll: +2, -4

Mao's well-placed kick sends one of Tony's men through the balcony's guard rail and down to the first floor. He lands on a table below with a spectacular crash that destroys the table with the force of his impact and sends glasses flying.

After carefully drawing a bead on his target, Jadefinger fires at Tony's head, but sends himself off his mark just as he pulls the trigger to avoid shooting May who is busily thrashing and trying to escape from Tony.

Jack Frost says his lines and emphasises his point as he cracks a mook's head down into a nearby table, knocking him unconscious.

Tony's last man on the second floor seizes his opportunity and charges into Mao from behind just after Mao sends another man flying. Mao is knocked over the edge as well, but manages to catch one of the remaining posts on the guard rail. Mao is left hanging from the balcony with Tony's man standing over him...

Downstairs, Tony's men follow their leader's aim and open fire at Jadefinger, who easily dodges their fire but gets grazed by one shot.
OOC:
Mao: +4, -2 +11 Martial Arts = Hit
Jadefinger: +5, -5 + 15 Guns +2 aiming -4 Cover = Miss
Jack Frost: +5, -4 +13 Martial Arts = Hit

What started as a regular attack from the mook upstairs became a great roll (+13, -1), and with Mao standing at the edge of a balcony, I had to take advantage of the situation and use one of those classic action sequence moments...

The downstairs mooks miss Jadefinger, though one hits (barely) and does 4 Wound Points.

"If you want the bitch, you can have her after I'm out the door!" Tony shouts to Jack Frost as he again attempts to shoot Jadefinger. May knocks his arm aside as he fires, however, sending his shot way off its mark.

Mark's men continue attacking Tony's men, and Mao is relieved as a red burst erupts from the chest of the mook above him, sending the man down to land atop his fallen compatriot below.

Tony: +5, -17(!)

Mark's mooks miss, with one good hit upstairs...[/i]

Mao: 2
Jadefinger: 2
Jack Frost: 1
Tony: Out of shots
Tony's Men: 1
Mark's Men: Out of shots

Wanchai District

Kane's kick strikes the gunman, who reels back from the attack then looks up and smiles against the pain, displaying nicotine-yellowed teeth.

The thin man begins backing up as he starts firing a series of rapid unaimed shots from his firearm, which looks similar to a glock but is a little too large and oddly blocky. Though taken off-guard by the sudden attacks, Kane is able to duck beneath the first shot.

The formerly quiet street now roars with deafening noise as the yakuza thugs open fire at Shinji, apparently uncaring if they hit their comrades already fighting him. At the same time the huge brute effortlessly rips the counter from one of the empty stalls on the street and hurls it at Shinji, striking him in the back.

Eiji and Shinji are both distracted by the gunfire that has erupted around them, and both wildly miss their attacks. Shinji is, however, able to reposition himself.

OOC:

Kane: +7, -4 +13 Martial Arts = 16 HIT! Slight damage
Bruiser: +5, -1 = HIT! Shinji takes 8 Wound Points

The gunman is using a snapshot, which cuts the shot cost of his attack by one, but increases the roll needed to hit by 2.
Thin Man: +4, -2 = Miss
Eiji: +3, -7 = Miss
Shinji: +2, -10 + Come on now... -10? = Miss

Shinji: 6
Eiji: 6
Bruiser: 7
Gunman: 7
Kane: 8
Mooks: 7

Regretting the necessity, but seeing that skill alone will not prevail against such numbers, Kane dashes forward, bringing his hands together in a rabbit punch to the bruiser's kidneys as he attempts to Embezzle the man's prodigious strength.

An icepick of pain runs through Jadefinger as he is hit in the side with a bullet from one of Tony's mooks. His eyes seem to mark Tony Shen, once and forever. "This will not be forgotten, you son of a bitch..."

And then, in a fit of fury, Jadefinger spins around, pinpoints the mook who shot him, and BLASTS him into the far wall with a volley of nine-millimeter death!

Shinji staggers under the impact of the heavy counter, barely able to use the momentum the impact generated to fuel his lateral movement, forgetting his planned attack as the roar of gunfire envelopes the combat, failing to take anyone down yet, but showing signs of a distinct lack of concern for his current crop of opponents. He smiles maliciously at Eiji.

"How sad, you're going to be gunned down by your own allies. Sad that I won't be the one to tear your heart from your chest."

He moves slowly as he speaks, keeping Eiji and the mooks between him and the machine gunners as he slips towards the entrance to the diner, ready to dive inside and out of the line of fire.

OOC: Holding my action and getting ready for active defense, if it's needed.
