The Eltingville Club

Sorry if there's any not-nice language in here, am copy-pasting this from another board I originally posted this in and thought I should post it here too. Anywhoo...

Not sure on the title of this one, missed the beginning and the CN website lists it as "CTN Default"

It's on adult swim on Cartoon Network @ 11, and is a half hour show about the Eltingville Club, a group of 4 geeks obsessed with D&D, Star Trek, Dr. Who, and all the other pop- and not-quite-as-pop-culture things dorks are known for.

Anywhoo, this show is hilarious, like most of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup. Tons of stupid references that you'll enjoy even if you don't actually like what it's referencing. They use all real stuff, which I like (No psuedo :):):):) like the show 'Star Check' which Dexter likes on Dexter's Lab).

I do have a bit of a gripe with it, tho, because it shows our intrepd group of geeks as mean, psychotic :):):):):):):)s, and one part in particular set off a red flag for me (while playing D&D one of them died and then he threatened he'd kill the DM if he didn't ressurect him. The RPG hobby's had to live with a bad and undeserved stigma for a long time, and we're only now starting to come over it...)

I'm not sure if this show is made by a geek or if it's just made by someone who spent a lot of time researching them, but eitherway I have mixed feelings about it and although it is funny I see it having a chance of doing more harm than good to the reputations of geeks in general and RPG'ers specifically.

I don't know, I thought it was rather spot-on.

I have known a number of fans to be mean spirited bullies, arguing in near hysteria over some bit of minutia of entertainment (the kind of arguing usually reserved for religious debates over heresy or a change to religious doctrine).

Some of these fandom bullies are also hostile to novices or people with only a casual interest in gaming, or speculative fiction.

Such personalities, even if they are not the majority of fandom, do have the loudest speaking voice and as such act as the "face" of fandom.

I thouhgt it was hilarious, and was an obvious parody of a gamers life done BY A GAMER. AT least thats the impression I got. Whoever made it had to be one of us, c'mon! :) All that, and the theme was by the Aquabats!

Yeah, that show had to have been made by a gamer. Although it was parody and off the wall, it was almost scary to how on the mark some of the situations were...especially when they went to the gaming store and those two guys were arguing about Pokemon---I've seen that happen. I've seen people drool over Star Wars action figures, quote obscure sci-fi movie trivia, game in a friends basement...

....of course I'm not one of those people. :p

l ROFLOL when they pulled the head off Boba Fett. Because I knew if I actually something like that my jaw would drop too.

"Ooo...ooo...I've got a good one: who played The Joker?" :D

I suggest to anyone who watches this show to look at the stuff written in the background in the scenes. Tonight I spotted "All your base are belong to us" written on a wall.

I really hope they show more episodes.

The comic is actually even more hilarious than the tv version as there's pretty much no holds barred in it. In the last issue of Dork (the comic by Evan Dorkin) a couple of "reformed" geeks try to reform one of the main members of the club. It was damn funny!

Anyway, I'm glad this show finally made it on the air.

I posted it on a private board I dare not say here, lest I be strung up by my tongue and lashed with a slightly moist towlette.
