[The End of the World of Darkness] What's White Wolf got up its sleeve?

I do hope they aren't announcing a line of pre-painted wolverine miniatures. ooog, another glutted gaming fad.

At least WW would have a competitive advantage with their four color pallette:

black, white, brown, red, and mixes of same.

Jury Duty: The Deciding

Jerry Lewis: The Dicerolling, with the Combaty-thing and the Talking and the Roleplaying and the FLAVIN! Nice Gamemaster lady!

From WW's forums:

To address the previous poster, it's been a White WOlf tradition to throw a bash on the Saturday night of Gen Con--this year's is just part of a marketing campaign. I know a lot of speculation has been thrown out there...but the Gen Con registration site
has updated (though still 100% vague) info on the announcement. THe quoted summary for the "seminar" is as follows: "White Wolf/Vampire: The Masquerade Special Announcement: White Wolf makes a stunning announcement that will change Vampire: The Masquerade and the World of Darkness forever! Free T-Shirts and party invitations to the first 500 attendees!"

So. It is DEFINITELY a World of Darkness deal, and seems to be a Vampire announcement--but they may have simply mentioned the most popular WoD game. Again, most of that info isn't new, but it IS official confirmation of this info. More updates to follow.

hmmmm.... I'm still wondering about d20 Vampire.

Any idea what they are hinting at? Vampire d20 maybe?

I don't know. I tried converting Vampire to d20 once, and there was one thing that brought me to a dead stop...celerity. There's no way to truly duplicate that in d20. Vampires are frickin' fast, so much so that they can stop nearly any action before it begins, but that kind of element is really difficult to reproduce with d20. The best I could ever come up with was to give them more actions per round based on their hit die (such as 2 rounds worth of actions per round, 3 rounds worth of actions per round, etc, etc), but it still didn't duplicate how fast they really are. For example, in Vampire, you're lucky to even get a single pull of a trigger on one before they just rip out your throat, or simply dodge the bullet. The closest you can get to that kind of action in d20 is the readied action, but I found it to clunky to duplicate.

If they do indeed plan to convert Vampire to d20, I'd be interested to see how they do it.

Celerity (and similiarly worked mechanics) soured my tastes for Storyteller for quite awhile. (Thank god Exaulted has nothing like it.)

That said, SSS has the EQ Haste rules, which stack rather well, and could be used to translate Celerity rather simply.

But, still, I wager that Vampire:d20 won't happen--it's just too complex a translation. OTOH, a Storyteller SRD would be BIG news.
