The Faerie Woods [Knight Otu Judging]

Ishmael grabs the fleeing thief and holds him still long enough for Nars to join in the fray. In moments, the massively outnumbered rogue is brought to heel. While his accomplices escaped, at least you can remove from the streets of Orussus one mugger who stalks the back alleys seeking 3 to one odds against an opponent half his size.

ooc: I'm sorry I've been having so much trouble posting regularly. Real life has been full of distractions of late. I'll try to do better, but if anyone wants to drop out I understand. I apologize if I've let you down!

oog: I get those times once in while, too. So I'm sympathetic. I'll stay in the adventure... but how about sweetening the deal with 347 xp for Ishmael? ;) j/k

Ishmael drew himself straight and suppressed a surge of nigh murderous rage. He was as shocked with his own emotions as with his wounds, he let the others manhandle the thug for a few moments before asserting control.

"One of us should bring this knave to the Watch. His cooperation with the proper authorities shall make the streets safer, should they decide to interrogate him and ferret out his brethren"

If no one offers, Ishmael asks permission from the party for some leave so that he could bring the prisoner to the Watch himself.

Ishmael channeled positive energy into the wound via a touch of his hand. He spent a charge of the healing wand afterward, to make sure the wound was properly mended.

The rush of healing power gave him an idea. He whispered this idea to the other members of party. "Perhaps, he would know something of the murders in this area. Let us ask him... or else, someone more menacing than I would like to threaten the information out of him?"

Nars visibly forces down his anger, but it is clear given his natural lack of eloquence that his speaking now would end up garbled and worthless. He continues to help restrain Jack without saying a word.

OOC: No worries on the delays, though I am excited to see what we have in store. Your other game was run so quickly that I can't complain.

Percy

"Hey, let's not ruin our ambush. Let's tie him up and put him in this room we've rented. We can turn him over to the authrorities in the morning. For now, let's keep our watch."

Persephone heads down the easy way and approaches Ismael. "Listen, sweetie. Are you feeling you've worn out that disguise. I have this hat thing," she takes a lavender bow off her strawberry blond hair and fixes it to the halfling's head. "It can alter your appearence in small or large ways. You've seen me use it. Perhaps you should make yourself look a bit different in case the redcap has been watching and would be suspicious of the same old drunk hanging out here night after night."

Ishmael concealed a look of distaste at the thought of further subterfuge. Laying bait was odd enough for a Paladin to do, but the use of this magic hat did not go well with him entirely.

He considered alternatives. But this way involved less time. This meant less victims for the Redcap (hopefully).

Furthermore, by donning this hat, he was saving the other members of the party from injury.

While he was not comfortable with disguising himself, a Paladin's comfort was less than a priority when the safety of others was involved.

Thanking Percy, he took the bow with some hesitation. The halfling tried to think imaginatively, but he was unable to think of the perfect bait for the vile fey.

Concentrating on the powers of the wondrous item, he changed his appearance to look like a filthy, unsightly and utterly drunken dwarf.

"My apologies, Sturm" he muttered under his breath.

OOG: I took the liberty of rolling for the CLW wand's 2 charges

1 charge from the CLW wand (1d8+1=7)

This CLW + Ishmael's laying on of hands ability (4) should wipe away the injuries of that particular scrape.

A few nights pass

You finish out the night with your refined plans and improved bait, eventually turning your captured hoodlum over to the watch. You continue your efforts over the next few days, with minimal results -- a few more lowlifes and street thrugs are foolish enough to harass Ishmael, to their immediate and sever regret. None of these later criminals are even armed, and pose no serious threat, but you feel you are contributing in a small way to the law and order of Orussus's streets.

The more immediate problem of the murders looms, however, and through communication with the guard you establish the following:

1. The pattern of one murder each night has continued.
2. There still doesn't appear to be any particular pattern to the murders, anyone out alone at night seems to be a valid target.
3. Last night, the target was a swordsman working as security for a merchant cartell's warehouse. He was armed, and apparently had been awake and alert when he was set upon. He was killed quickly, and another guard arrived just as he died. The murderer reportedly gave him an evil grin and disapeared in a flash of light.

The population of Orussus is large enough that waiting to be attacked could easilly take weeks or months to even make contact with the target, and if his ability to escape is not somehow overcome such a trap might be of no avail even should it catch its target.

[ooc: If you wish to continue with you current tactics, you may, and I will roll in order to determine if your bait is attacked. The chances, however, are very low.]

Persephone

Percy sighs at their lack of sucess. "I became an adventurer, not a policeman."

"I think we need to rething our strategy. The redcap seems to still be in town, murdering like crazy, though stopping at one a night, for some reason, though he could easily have killed more. Assuming he still has the necklace, do we have any other options?"

Nars frowns. He is happy to have been able to get some scum off the street, but they are no closer to locating the necklace.

"Perhaps, ah, we could try to talk to the druids about this Fairblood character who pozez, er, had the necklace before. More n-knowledge of the, ah, necklace may be required to catch the beasty."

Ishmael nodded at Nars' words.

"I am proud to have provided some help to Orussus' constabulary, but I see thine point. Our purpose is to seek and halt this fiendish fey creature. Investigation and question might yield better results than watching and waiting.

Let us talk to these druids. Perhaps they can shed some more light on the matter at hand"

After some additional investigation, you learn that there is a human Druid named Fasroth who lives reasonably close to the Faerie Woods. Fasroth is a Druid of no great stature, and not a contemporary of Fairblood, but he might know something of use.
