The Funeral (Stonegood judging) [finished]

OOC: Yeah, but otherwise his goons get a clear shot at the casket, and Stulgar isn't exactly in a thinking mood. You all are too slow :p

The chase is near its end, and looks like you are winning. Raven and Niccolo launch themselves into combat with the guards and Ceshil himself. Raven is too quick for his opponent: he crouches under the man’s feeble sword strike and hacks at his undefended legs, making him fall. Niccolo has but one chance of striking at Ceshil’s back while he turns and moves away, before a dense mass of rolling, grey fog, descends and hides everything. Stulgar is growing weary and tired, and he too finds himself

[crunch details:

Initiative list:

Ceshil 21
Armed men 18
Orerreth 14
Raven 14
Stulgar 9
Niccolo 5
Latharion 4
Siobhan 4

Raven charges and drops a guard.

Stulgar readies an action to strike the first Cannith that comes within range.

Niccolo does have a change to attack Ceshil if he charges, so he does. He fails, however.

Latharion moves north a bit, and given that the crowd has dispersed by now (you can ignore the blue spots now) tries to hide behind one of the stands. He does a good job, but not good enough and can’t fool the guards that were left behind.

Siobhan moves forward, ending not far from Latharion.

Round 8

Cashil is reduced to desperate measures now. He moves away from Niccolo, who gets his attack of opportunity and this time connects (6 damage) and casts Obscuring mist. You can hear what’s left of the Cannith team moving within the mist. The other two guards give up and move away.

Orerreth moves forward and curses.

Status: Latharion 6 damage, Siobhan 9 damage. Niccolo has a +2 deflection bonus to AC. Unless I’m mistaken, this is the last round of rage and shifting for Stulgar.

Ooc: I checked the Beguiler’s spell list out of curiosity and found that all the spells Ceshil cast are there. Why can’t he be one?

Ooc2: No map this round. I don’t think its necessary now, since the complicated part of the combat now has finished, and with the Obscuring mist a map is as good as nothing. I don’t think you’ll have problems to decide where your characters currently are: if you do, I’ll think on something.]

(OOC: Grease isn't on the Beguiler spell list. Why, was he supposed to be a Beguiler? Oh, and my analysis forgot that Whelm was level 1 (which I initially thought was true but convinced myself it was level 2 so I could explain it better, though I suppose that could have been a Whelming Blast against one target)--I was right the first time that that's too many for a Sorcerer to know of level 1 spells, and he just cast his 4th 1st-level spell, which is really really weird unless he is a Beguiler with an unexplained casting of Grease)

*Siobhan keeps going. If she finds a soldier because he becomes 5-feet away, she attacks it. If not, she doesn't. She relies on her keen sense of hearing to help with that--she should be at a huge advantage there over the soldiers*

oc: Ceshil didn't cast Grease. He used Bluff to convince the crowd that Stulgar was a thielf, and somebody else believed him and cast it. It was a Grease spell or a trip attack, and I finally went for the first.

I can't confirm nor deny that Ceshil is a beguiler. What I said was that I was trying to follow your logic and couldn't think on anything Ceshil did that a beguiler couldn't.

Also, notice that Latharion and Siobhan are still a round away from the chapel. Those last two Canniths that couldn't make it (one failed a balance check, other fell into the Grease) did give up and fled the scene*. The rest of you are into or bordering the Obscuring mist area. Now I'm thinking that I should post a map, but I can't right now. I'll se if I can when I come back.

*no, they are not warlocks.

(OOC: Oop! I totally misread that round's actions :o What a happy coincidence for Ceshil that there was a rare PC-classed character in that crowd, though it turned out okay for us and bad for his own guys :] In that case, everything makes sense and he's likely a Beguiler. Siobhan doesn't even know what a Beguiler is, and she doesn't care  Let's smash some Cannith heads!)

Latharion moves into the mist, taking up position at the exit of the chapel, ready to sneak attack the Leader of the Canniths when he leaves the chapel. He peeks through the door to see what happens.

OOC : hide and ready action to sneak attack.

The die has been cast now that Raven has chosen a side. She sheaths her sword and bends over to get a grip on the man who she just cut down. She then begins to drag him towards a wall to get out of the way. She plans to hunker down for a minute until the mist fades. She'll search the fallen man briefly, feeling for his pockets and any jewlry. As she does, she tries to remember anything she knows of House Cannith.

OOC: Knowledge (local) +4

Niccolo - male human swashbuckler

"I know they say that if you don't like the weather, wait a minute and it'll change, but I didn't realize that applied inside too." Niccolo stumbles forward through the mist, towards the dais.

OOC: If I stumble across one of the Cannith guys I'll take a stab at them. Otherwise, if I make it to the dais I'll try to search it, although I expect the mist'll make that a little tricky.

Niccolo bravely dares the mist and bumps into one of the Cannith soldiers. He jumps back and lounges with his rapier several times, but his opponent is very cautious and deflect’s Niccolo’s slender blade with skill. Niccolo even tries to make him abandon his defences purposefully provoking an opening in his own’s, but the man refuses to attack.

Raven continues being cautious, and drags the man he downed against the wall. She can see how Latherion and Siobhan finally arrive and how Orerreth enters the mist too.

***

Stulgar meanwhile is growing tired of watching the dais, and he can feel his fury draining away and his legs shortening. Suddendly Orerreth arrives. He has his left hand holding a handkerchief against the mouth, where a slash is making him bleed. ”Good job” he says with some difficulty. "Did you find the crystal? One of them got me before I managed to arrive here.”

Initiative list:

Ceshil 21
Armed men 18
Orerreth 14
Raven 14
Stulgar 9
Niccolo 5
Latharion 4
Siobhan 4

Raven grabs the man she downed and drags him to the wall. He’s still alive and technically unconscious and bleeding. One of those present at the chapel offer you help to try to stabilize him. Raven also knows everything that’s common knowledge about house Cannith, roughly what’s detailed in the Organizations chapter in the ECS. She had no time to search the man.

Stulgar keeps watching, but his rage and shifting is about to end.

Niccolo enters the mist in the same direction he saw Ceshil move before he invoked the spell, and finds a Cannith soldier. He attacks and fails (by a mile), but he notices his opponent is using full defense.

Latharion and Siobhan finally reach the chapel’s gates, and keep their eyes open.

Round 9

Orerreth enters the mist. The man fighting Niccolo keeps using full defense. You can’t see what the other one, Orerreth and Ceshil are doing, except for the following details:

-Stulgar heard fighting within the mist.
-Stulgar can’t spot any detail or clue that would make him sure the man he’s speaking with isn’t Orerreth.
-He was able to hear someone casting a spell, however.

Status: Latharion 6 damage, Siobhan 9 damage. Niccolo has a +2 deflection bonus to AC. Stulgar is now fatigued and has shifted back.

ooc: Again, no map. I'm sure you understand why.]
