The Goblin Defense Fund

I read through the funny stuff. I was amused ;)
But what is the point of the petition? Are you trying to get WotC to make Goblins a core race? Remove the old descriptive text? Get rid of the Dwarf/Gnome hate? If you could state what your true intent is, maybe I'd sign it if I agree with it. Then again, the fact that I have no intention of playing 4E, maybe it doesn't matter anyway. But I'm still curious.

OK. I read the mission statement:

The Goblin Defense Fund is an organization dedicated to defending the rights of the Goblin race. We have pledged our lives to the following goals:

* To achieve full social and descriptive rights for goblins. We demand an end to implications that goblins are stupid, filthy, cruel, ugly slave-takers and torturers. These bilious slanders could not be further from the truth.

* To achieve full game-mechanical rights for goblins (and, to a lesser extent, their ‘monstrous’ humanoid brethren.) No longer shall goblins, orcs, gnolls, and other races be saddled with -2 to Charisma scores and lousy racial bonuses relative to those given to the ‘good’ races like dwarves, elves, and halflings.

* To end the use of goblins as ‘cannon fodder’ in modules for low-level, incompetent adventurers. To the extent that goblins are used as opponents, they should be described and played as being no less ruthless or clever than the murderous thugs invading their homes.

* To inform the gaming public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination against goblins and seek its elimination.

And I read over the petition. Sorry, I like my goblins crude, ugly, murderous, and low-level threats. In fact, Paizo's take on the goblin has become my new favorite. To quote James Jacobs: "Stupid little freaks!"

If you happen to wake up one day and find a severed elf-head sitting in bed next to you . . . we had NOTHING to do with it.

And if you truly believe what you say, you should at least sign off on bullet #3 above. Did you read the History at the site -- specifically, the secton on goblins in the Sunless Citadel?

Not exactly the best way to get people to think that goblins aren't little savages.

Severed elf heads, eh? I can live with that ;)
I believe I read everything, but I'll go back and look. Not that it's going to change my opinion of goblins. Good luck, though!

OK. I read the Sunless Citadel bit you mention. Very amusing and great arguments. Now, perhaps if the Monster Manuals and adventures were written by Goblins we'd have quite a different take on things, wouldn't we? Unfortunately, in fantasy game terms, texts written about the various monsters were most likely (definitely) written by humans. So there you go.

I gotta say, though, that I really enjoyed the stuff you put together. You put a lot of work in to it. Kudos, my man!
