The Heal/Harm revision?

People get worked up over Harm still? I think everyone's pretty much decided to do what they want with it and just repeat it over, and over, and over, and over....

People get worked up over Lucius as he tends to troll, not Harm so much. I can tell from both of your posts that you're both just joking around in an attempt to get a rise out of people, so I just don't take either of you too seriously anymore :)

Hey, IB, you're the one Trolling with your House Rules spread all over the other forums instead of where it belongs (either in the House Rules forum or in a small box on the bottom of the ocean).

And just for that, you will no longer be receiving invitation letters to join S.H.I.N.Y. I'm sorry, but you've brought this on yourself. :)

The amount of house rules that I don't explicitly state as such are probably 0%. The amount of house rules that I post on threads in the RULES FORUM where the original poster DIDN'T say that he doesn't like Rule X and wants opinions are also probably 0%. The amount of House Rules that I use in my campaign is also lower than the amount of House Rules I mention on these forums. I often record and note interesting house rules for "possible" use in case my group runs into issues with a rule.

Given that 2nd Edition required a ton of house rules, I don't want to use house rules in 3E unless it is absolutely required.

Please take your trolling elsewhere :)

While I've no one to blame but myself (and the other 3rd Edition designers, I suppose), there are some things that I think are simply unbalanced in the core rules.

He accepts the blame. What were you expecting from him, Lucius? Perfection?

Trolling means insulting people. I think you're accusing him of "spamming" Since house rules are somewhat relevant to rules discussions, then he isn't even spamming.

There should be a [house rule] tag along with quote tags.

Somehow I always get blamed for these things.

I don't think he was blaming only you Tom :) Everyone here gets worked up at one point or another.

You did have the most obvious quote at the time, however:
First of all, any DM worth his salt can keep these spells balanced. No need to air out your personal shortcomings and insecurities here, my friend.
You're certainly not the only person to have said things like this (I mean the manner of saying it, not your side of the debate) but it is things like this that start or maintain flame wars.

Thanks for sticking up for me, PSH! Consider youself an official member of S.H.I.N.Y., with all the privilages and duties thereof.

I think I missed something vital in that communication. Maybe it was sarcasm? Something else?

Anyway, there's no point of inviting me to SHINY - look at my sig and you'll see why.

Listen, just because you're Canadian doesn't mean you can't join. We at S.H.I.N.Y. hold no bias towards peoples of any culture, no matter how strange or bizarre. You're membership card is in the mail, my friend! :)

Ah, see I have a different definition of trolling. Posting something even though you know it's going to have a negative effect on the thread :)

With Lucius, he will often drop "any DM with his salt", "house rules are for bad DMs", or just say "Harm is balanced as is". I suspect that he knows the response he'll get each time he makes those comments (and I'm only playing along with him as it's fun :D) and thus I called him a troll. And, yes, by that definition I'm trolling back :) but I just wanted to call it as I see it.

I think it was Lucius who missed something...maybe he was inviting you to join SHAFT Harm in the New Year. :)

I define trolling as trying to stir people up. As Spikey notes, it doesn't take much skill or intellect to troll with insults. The truly skilled troll can stir up a flame war with seemingly innocuous comments injected at just the right time. As IceBear pointed out...Lucius puts enough obvious sarcasm in his posts that anyone can tell he's just having fun. Too bad he can't read posts to save his life. ;)

Hey--let's have a round of applause for the level-headed and tactful Doc Moriarty! He's a good sport. :D

And let me say one more time: Harm should have an "Evil" descriptor, along with all the Inflict spells. Add a save or a damage cap if you wish, but the problem is solved: that's what I meant about DMs keeping it balanced. If the DM is the primary user of Harm (found mainly in enemy arsenals), it should be easy to exercise some restraint and not make Harm part of a lethal Powerplay Combo.

Just because you can do a thing does not mean you should do a thing.
