The Heal/Harm revision?

Monte Cook has also recently written that he doesn't like the Harm spell. (Click here for the whole article: http://www.montecook.com/diary.html )

Here are the pertinent quotes: "There are some things that I think are simply unbalanced in the core rules. After years of further play, I just don't like how they work anymore...I don't think you should use...lots of spells -- harm, haste, true resurrection, find the path, and more.

This from the author of the "call of the [gem] spells... ;)

Okay, I'm going to have to look harder for sarcasm. Why isn't there a sarcasm smiley?

Since Lucius is just being sarcastic, I will respond appropriately (if at all).

Yeah, I saw Shaft Harm in the New Year - ther are game designers in that group :)

Monte came up with the spell Conjuration Bolt In Book of Eldritch Might.

For that, Monte Cook is a god.

I will brook NO DISRESPECT to my deity!!!!!!!!!!!

Flames and trolling are fun, and.......

Staggering back on-topic for just a moment....

I'm kinda shocked others have missed/glossed over this: This "Epic Level fix" is little more than a way to float the revised rules out for the community to comment on, before the actual 3.5e is released.

This thread (less the silly trolling parts), along with other threads on other boards, is being watched by the revisers, in an effort to see how the changes will be received. What better way to vet the changes, and yet seem not to being doing so?

What the designers really wish is that the current ENWorld message board community was active and available to do the same sort of thing for the original 3e.

Possibly, but I don't think all the things in that article will be in 3.5. The Harm ruling, possibly, but I have doubts about some of the other stuff.

Of course I'm pretty sure they are monitoring all the boards out there to see the common complaints, house rules, questions, etc in order to determine what the D&D community probably wants addressed in the revised books.

Timothy Schnack has recently posted an article at RPG Treatises proving that Monte himself is seriously unbalanced.

Makes sense to me.
The site in your link seems to be down.

But then, the other things aren't as vital (or have been debated as hotly - or very much at all, really) as the harm revision.

I don't like being watched... S.H.I.N.Y. has very strict privacy policies.

You know, in our current campaign, there is a chance that Harm may soon be very abused. Our cleric is about to be able to cast 6th level spells. The party's got a Ring of Spell Storing that we've found. If the Wizard casts a bunch of Spectral Hands into the ring, I think the Cleric could effectively use it to smackdown monsters from a distance. Yikes. Luckily, we've got a good DM who's "worth his salt." :)

Harm is an evil spell.

Quidam accepts, but hardly ever follows, advice from wizards as to what he should do with his spells.

Wait...change "hardly ever" to never. Yeah...that's it. :)
