The Hobbit - Movie

Now, I have heard dozens of rumors that Petey has made or is making a motion picture of The Hobbit, to be released after The Return of the King, but I've never heard an official statement either way. Could someone please let me know if there is any truth to this or am I just gullible?

I heard it will be a mini series. I just Hope they get the same people that played Gandalf, Bilbo, Elrond, and Gollum.

Certainly he hasn't made any such thing, and from what I understand the rights to "The Hobbit" are a rather sticky situation. Of course, so was LoTR.

But anyway, PJ does not currently own the rights to make a film of the Hobbit, and has expressed conflicting emotions on the subject. He originally denied any interest in making the Hobbit, but has amended that somewhat more recently.

PJ's next film is "King Kong."

Ian McKellan has expressed strong interest in playing Gandalf again, and floated the idea in multiple interviews of doing The Hobbit as a mini-series, produced by PJ. To the best of my knowledge, nothing has come of this to this point.

AFAIK, New Line Cinema has film option for LOTR and Hobbit. Tolkien Enterprises owns the licensing authority of LOTR and Hobbit.

The other literary Tolkien works (including the Silmarillion) have not been optioned out, courtesy of Tolkien Estate. As far as the eldest Tolkien son is concern (and respecting his late father's wishes, who regretted over LOTR and Hobbit licensing), they never will be.

I can see it now. Silmarillion:The Movie, Extended Version! Over 24 hours long! Now with even more backstory!;)

Demiurge out.

Do you think 12-disc series is enough? I don't think so! That's the abridged version. :p
