Looks pretty, but I'm concerned it is diverting more and more from the script. Do we really needs the "Ooh! Legolas!" moments? Looks like a ploy to sell the movie to teen girls to me.

I'm not a Tolkien purist. If I want something that's identical to the original story I'll reread the book. I'm just looking for a few hours entertainment.

I'm not a purist either. Loved the film trilogy for LOTR. But the first Hobbit film was just soooo boring! It was really quite distressing how little I felt entertained.

I think this is the first time, (these movies), that I've ever heard anyone pronounce "Smaug." I always pronounced it like "smog." Hearing "smawg" sounds like "smog" with a Southern (U.S.) accent. It just doesn't sound right, or dragon-worthy.

Did you not see the first Hobbit movie last year?

I agree; took me by surprise then. That's not how I've ever pronounced it. I think for me it's always been more "Smorg".

Bro? The book was pretty boring, too. I've read hundreds of books through the years - from classics to fantasy trash (a bad habit thankfully gone) to modern stuff to ... - and out of all of those books over all of that time I've only ever failed to finish two works that I started: Red Storm Rising (Clancy sucks) and The Hobbit. In fact, I still remember the day I started and stopped reading it. I was sitting in a courthouse waiting to see if my jury duty group would be called (eventually it was). The only entertainment to be had (pre-smartphone era) was some magazines countless disgusting humans had fingered, morning TV with the volume uber low or The Hobbit. I think I made it 20 pages before I'd decided that straining my ears to hear something I had no interest in was an incredibly better way to spend my time. Anyhoo, if the source material is boring then the movie ...
