Hasn't that been the plot of multiple Stephen King novels?
Maybe. I wouldn’t know. I have a stack of his stuff in my TBR pile. That being the plot of a novel is a bit different than people repeatedly making the argument that there’s something wrong with or off about mystery and horror writers & fans.

“Two kinds of folks…I’m the kind that pays better.”

Two kinds. Not one kind. Not the same.

Castle was fun for a few seasons. But they were too dedicated to their formula. Once you spot the formula, you always know who the killer is about 1/4-1/3 of the way through the episode. In about 90% of the episodes the killer is the 3rd person they interview. Loved the Patterson, Connelly, et al appearances.

Still a fun ride, if you can turn off your analytical brain for a bit. I can't, but still enjoyed the first 4-5 seasons. Might do a rewatch, as it's now available for streaming.

That’s the fun of mysteries, solving the puzzle. Turning off your analytical brain kinda messes with that. I’ve never been able to re-read or re-watch a mystery. I don’t see the point.

Often TV mysteries aren't really about the mystery; the mysteries aren't good enough to support that. They're about the characters and side plots with mysteries as the structure to hang that on. There are often structural and pacing clues that don't really have to do with anything in-world that give the show away too fast (very few shows have the temporal real estate to throw up red herrings in a way that actually is convincing for example, since usually it will be contrasted with Chekov's gun characters or situations that catch the eye once you start becomeing aware of it).
