Someone complained about pumpkin spice and that was called out as being anti teenage girl. Someone complained about disco and that was called out as being anti LGBTQ+.

I think I was the first one who brought up disco and talked about the historical anti-LGBT elements of it. To my knowledge, no one complained about disco at all and certainly no one was being attacked for not liking disco. I made it explicit that while there have been culture war and biased attacks on these forms of music, not liking them doesn't automatically make one prejudiced. People can also just not like stuff. But ordinary people don't burn piles of disco records in stadiums.

If I'm craving just plain chocolate, nothing added, I'll go with Lindt; imo it can't be beat at the same price. And if I'm craving a convenience-store candy bar, my favorite is Toblerone but really any chocolate bar will do.

My beef with country music is that it has become inauthentic, not classist. I have nothing bad to say about the people who like country music, even "stadium country" music...it's the record labels and the performers that I struggle to accept.

I had a girlfriend, two thirds of a lifetime back, who worked in an airport duty free. the occasional free Toblerone was definitely a thing and was always welcome. Employees were permitted a certain amount of grazing of the product, which was pretty cool.

Much of what is now considered "Country" feels more like Pop or Rock, just with a nasal twang. I gon't hear much that sounds like Woody Guthrie or Johnny Cash, these days.

My wife likes to quote a novel (which the title of escapes me): "I just murdered my ex-husband and his odious child bride. Why won't anyone let me enjoy myself?" Since my wife's family are from the deep South, my wife hears that line in her head with a certain ... intonation.

The best country songs are about sticking it to The Man. Telling him to take that job and shove it, loading sixteen tons of coal and getting nothing in return, stealing a car off the assembly line one piece at a time, growing up poor while your parents work themselves to death, dealing with baked-in sexism from 9 to 5 every day, you know the songs.
