I would wait for the Warner Brothers lawyers to concede the point before planning on publishing anything related to Fables.

Willingham has always been prickly. Not a surprise that he would eventually break with DC -- the surprise is how long this relationship lasted.

I'm also curious to find out exactly what he is giving rights away to and which parts DC or others has. (Art? Collection designs? Etc.)

Fables goes public domain...

!!!!!!!!
While that's really cool, I'm not sure what good that will do. Because, importantly, DC Comics is also part of the public that now has free access to the property. And they still have the deep pockets to bully anyone they want. But modernizing fairy tales and bringing them into the modern world isn't exactly a new and fresh idea in 2023.

Chances are he owns the IP itself, the characters, the stories, etc. But the art is almost certainly owned by DC. They hired the artists, as contractors more than likely, to create the art to go with Bill's words. DC also owns the trademark on the name. Both Bill and DC are listed as the copyright holders in the random issue of Fables I just checked.

Yeah, assuming he can just unilaterally hand away copyright on his own choice without looking at how the contracts look is not something I'd be willing to assume...

There's an obvious answer to your question, but I can't imagine it'll help.

I have a bunch of these. The first several collections were fantastic, but like any property that goes on and on, the lore gets too deep over time. The last couple I have were a bit of a slog. I liked his interpretations, though!
