In at least one contest, pineapple is the most popular pizza topping in California, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon, Utah, and Virginia. It's also the second-most popular topping in America, overall.
It's also apparently
the #1 topping in Australia, but I couldn't get the image to link.
I got this image from a Reddit thread, and the comments are hilarious. Everyone is all "I call bulls--t, there's no possible way that
my favorite isn't
everybody's favorite!" and lots of "I demand to see the data!" and "Google searches aren't the same thing as pizza orders!" and so on. Basically the same things people yell about with respect to D&D.
Turns out, that "pizza as D&D" metaphor was closer than I knew.
I know that personal experience isn't proof, but I can attest: when I worked in a pizzeria, pineapple was very popular. Not as popular as pepperoni or extra cheese, but it was definitely in the top three. If someone ordered a one-topping pizza, it was almost always pepperoni...but if they ordered a two-topping pizza, it was almost always pineapple and bacon. I don't know how useful that info is, but there it is.
