Not my meme, but I ran and played AD&D 1st edition back in the 80s, and I didn't use 1, 2, 3, 14, 17 (which is in there twice), 20, 31, 32, 35, or 36. So, I guess I never played or ran D&D...

I played 1e quite a bit, and I don't remember most of that list being super-relevant. There's probably a connection to the fact I'm running 5e in ways that feel to me very consistent with how I played 1e.

Yeah, that list is largely garbage. Even the classic modules are a minority of the modules published during the TSR era, unless someone wants to argue with a straight face that Gargoyle, Baltron's Beacon, The House on Gryphon Hill, The Forest Oracle, Puppets, Falcon's Revenge or Five Shall Be One should be considered the "best modules ever published."

I played the crap out of all the classic modules, running most of them at least half a dozen times. And by today's standards, they're bare bones at best and haphazardly put together. Lost Mines of Phandelver runs circles around all of them.

A couple different threads today reminded me of this song. RPWL is a German progressive rock band, who started off as a Pink Floyd tribute act, then branched out into doing their own material. The lyrics to this song come entirely from reviews and comments posted online, a decision I admire so much.
