I may have complained about this before, but there is this posting style where someone responds to you not because you said something wrong, but to somehow repeat what you said in a way that sounds like a correction regardless that really drives me up a wall, when the proper response would have been none at all.

It's especially bad if it's just expanding on your point but not otherwise responsive.

On the other hand, there's a tendency to automatically see any reply as being a correction or disagreement. I've had someone try to argue with me when I was quoting them to agree with their point and provide extra context in support of it.

Yeah, sometimes you're just enlarging and/or spinning off from something someone says.

You, personally, are--at least that I've seen--usually pretty good at saying you're just spinning off something. Other people are capable of very vociferous agreement.

I was rather disappointed at a family dinner to find out that I (recovered addict, punk rock, zen quaker) was not the crazy uncle.
