One can also choose to be negative in silence as well, but that doesn’t stop people. So I say post what you want, and just be prepared for people to respond. That’s what a forum is after all.

I mean the declared, if not 100% practiced, intent of this thread is an outlet for what is being broadly discussed.

We all stumble on the path of being more enlightened internet users.

Forgive me Father, for I have commented on another thread...

The former director of the Vatican Observatory, Brother Guy Consolmagno, is a veteran member of sf fandom. At one point, while working on a scientific paper, he spent a year at a monastic retreat house with rules about silence - conversation allowed only at very specific times and circumstances. It’s apparently perennially popular with Jesuits and others wanting to really focus on academic projects. For several years thereafter, his wardrobe for Worldcons included a t-shirt proclaiming ASK ME ABOUT MY VOW OF SILENCE!

(He also has possibly the coolest rosary in the world. Each bead comes from the Vatican’s meteorite collection.)

It's funny I've asked other people to step up and show me what they mean with no intention of debating and they have from a single paragraph to multiply paragraphs, but I guess the internet has condition us to automatically think "oh god they just want to argue with me" "Umm no sir, I want to know what your view really is."

It certainly has, but I also question in some cases if any evidence is going to shift the conversation. I dont believe it will, so its a 'nah' as the effort outweighs any potential gain. Not that I take offense to the question or its productivity, but it simply is what it is.

Especially here, with the uhhh preponderance of pedantry and goal post shifting, and strawman arguments. Its just not worth it. I could link 5 threads in a single subforum that all follow this same path in seconds from here. Its just not worth the wear and tear on my heart.

That's true, and why I've stopped brothering with one forum and rarely get into threads on reddit. I've found that at least here with some users they are willing to give you the benefit of a doubt and either explain something simply or in the case of one person take 6 paragraphs to explain lol. ( you can have a too)
