I only use the ignore function very infrequently. I have found that being able to stand back and watch the final implosion occur can be quite cathartic.
I'll admit it: I get a little thrill whenever I login and see that a thread got locked. That's a guaranteed half-hour of reading some random melt-down in slow-mo.
Train-wreck endorphins are especially delicious endorphins, for some reason.

I did not know you could log in and see that a thread got locked!

Same. The few I have blocked was due to how they say things and not what they say generally.

I only have blocked two people on here, one of whom is no longer here. Most people I might think about it regarding either are just not ones I interact with enough to find it necessary, or alternate with doing interesting and/or insightful things, so I'm not willing to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Of the two I blocked, one I mostly agreed with but was so consistently acerbic I didn't feel like dealing with them, and the second appeared to me to be frequently arguing in bad faith.

Oh, I'm just talking about the little "lock" icon that appears on a thread that shows it got shut down. Looks like this:

Same spot can show icons indicating that a thread is a poll, or sticky, etc.

Oh I thought there was a page of just locked threads! Still, you learn something new every day. (I have not yet learned what a little bell icon in that spot means. The tooltip says "Forum Watched", but I am not watching most of the threads with the icon, and I have no idea what it means to watch a forum.)

You automatically watch a thread if you participate in it, so the bell icon appears. You can choose to watch a thread, without participating in it, by clicking on the "Watch" button within that thread. When you do so the bell icon also appears next to that thread, in the threads list.

And if you ever replied to a thread, you'll see the bell icon unless you specifically unwatch it--though you'll stop seeing notifications if you just stop looking at it. If you stopped paying attention to a thread, and you click into it again, you'll start seeing notifications for it again.

I had never participated in a bunch of the marked threads, though, nor clicked the "Watch" button. It remains a mystery!
