shrug I think it's incredibly hard for people to say, "I'm wrong."

That's why I will post the following every now and then-

People get so invested in the argument, that even when there is contrary evidence (especially when there is contrary evidence) they will just double down.

Humph! I can't believe you think we don't know the difference between House Flies and adult Mayflies!?!?!?

I went to the bother of digging into PF2, and now they are removing alignment. I'm displeased.

Yeah. When the news broke yesterday I couldn't help but laugh. Four months ago they saw a huge surge in new players thanks to the OGL debacle...and now they're revising their books. So all those players who just bought the books...are immediately told they will have the opportunity to buy them all again in a few months. Ridiculously bad timing.

Also, beliefs vs. ideas from Dogma:

Rufus : He still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the naughty word that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.

Bethany : Having beliefs isn't good?

Rufus : I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier...

I'm trying to imagine a world where if you vociferously accuse/defend someone on social media, and it turns out they didn't/did do it - that you're banned from all further posts anywhere until you make one apologizing for being vociferously wrong. And then your name everywhere you post has a little superscripted red number that gets incremented by one.

The idea of "we can make people do the right thing" always starts from a good place, but then it goes downhill really fast.

I think the conflict between "make people do the right thing" versus "let people do the wrong thing" is the underlying reason why I'm usually ready to go back to bed by 10AM to sleep off the depression after reading the day's news about politics, climate change, bigotry, economic inequality, war, OneD&D, etc, etc.

Yeah, I can relate. I've cut way back on my screen time lately because I just can't spare the mental energy for arguments.

(I'm hesitant to list OneD&D alongside bigotry and war, though. Contrary to what I keep hearing on social media, OneD&D isn't actually, actively killing people.)
