So the wife and I watch the YouTube channel Outside XBox, and they have a couple of videos about Jedi: Survivor, a newly-released sequel game to Jedi: Fallen Order, and it looks pretty good. We don't have the new one, but Fallen Order was free on PSPlus a few months ago, so I have that one. I'm not willing to spend any money on video games right now. Has anyone played the two who could say if they play similar enough that Fallen Order would scratch my current Survivor itch?

Fallen Order, honestly, plays a bit like a work-in-progress on the way to Survivor. Systems aren't quite as refined, combat isn't quite as smooth, the level design isn't quite where it ought to be. It's good, mind you, it's just that the sequel is better.

The cast and story are both pretty great too. It's definitely worth playing, especially if you go in with the expectation that it's not a typical Jedi hack-n-slash and you have to be relatively thoughtful even in fighting groups of stormtroopers (at least at first).

Also, shout out to Outside XBox, they seem like good eggs all around

Random conversation idea that isn't enough for a thread (yet)-

One thing I miss is full-on serendipity ... the shock of the truly new and unexpected. Mostly because of the endless scroll of streaming services (weirdly) which keeps me from putting on something unless I recognize it, and also because I can quickly look something up.

Anyway, I was just remembering this time I was going through the cable channels back in the late 90s, and I stumbled on this foreign film. I sat down and watched it thinking it was maybe something fun, or a light horror movie, or something.

I think at this point, at least personally, that I open up to new things based on association.

I won't spend money on "random movie title" coming out if I never seen anything about it, but if I'm associated with someone or something that can vouch for its quality, I give it a try.

I don't think this is odd, but maybe its new behavior born from our modern informational buffet.

Wow. That escalated quickly. Who knew that gunpowder would be such an explosive topic on Reddit? (rimshot)

I don't get the hostility toward/against the playtest materials or the new edition. The new edition will happen, with or without our input. But also, the current edition of the game isn't going anywhere: the books are still going to be sitting on your bookshelf, the SRD will always be in the Creative Commons, etc. So if you don't like where 6E is heading, you can just skip it.

I've done it before. I stayed with BECM until 3E was released, because I didn't care for AD&D 2E. Same thing happened for 4E...I didn't care for the style so I stayed with 3.5E for more than a decade until 5E came out. (shrug) It wasn't a big deal.

But I digress. What I didn't comment in that Reddit thread:

If you don't like the changes they are making to D&D, you should definitely let them know in the surveys. But it's not worth ruining your blood pressure (and online reputation) by yelling at strangers on the Internet about it and making yourself look like an (impolite word for jerk). You can always say "eh, no thanks" and keep playing 5E. Nobody can stop you. Nobody will even care.

Most people only want to play the newest, official, proper, currently in print version of whatever game it is. It’s a weird phenomenon. Which leads people to getting bent about the new version doing things they don’t want. Because they’ve decided they have to play the new version and they have to play RAW. I don’t know why they do this. But they do.

I remember being utterly baffled by the extended vintage car race in the middle of American Psycho. Turned out I'd fallen asleep and woken up during the next movie.

If you're looking for recommendations, almost all of his movies are good, but my favourite is The Seventh Continent. Don't google it first!
