I know vagueposting isn't good form, but sometimes people here seem fixated on this one idea that will never happen due to obvious financial and popularity incentives, and not only do I not understand why they think their idea is plausible, but they never reply to objections to their obvious pipe dream.

At some point, I gotta ask: Why you keep bringing up your pipe dream if it's simply not feasible and you will never engage in any meaningful discussion about it with anyone?

I don't mind posts about pipe dreams. Heck, I have a history of advocating for things (less magic, Greyhawk, psionics, etc.) that have low or no chances of seeing the light of day, and certainly not in a form that I am advocating for. I like to talk about these things because I genuinely like these things!

....what I find bizarre is when people don't understand why their positions are unlikely to be accepted. It's this bizarre, almost conspiratorial belief that some people have that everything and everyone else is incorrect, and that their own personal preferences are unlikely to be placed into 5e for the simple reason that their personal preferences are not, in fact, universally shared.

Oh, having personal "I wish"s I absolutely get. It's when someone brings up "I'm telling you, Papa John's is definitely going to expand into Italy and make Hawaiian pizza their flagship option for the Italian market!" in every single pizza thread that makes me think "do you really not see why that would never fly in Italy?".

Because the people who do so either are self-deluded about it and think any contrary statements are just negativity and/or a desire to maintain the status quo, or alternatively are aware its unlikely to happen but are very frustrated that's true and are venting.

As a substitute teacher I always assumed creative name spellings primarily existed because people hated substitute teachers and wanted to make their jobs harder. They certainly don't make the kids lives any easier.

My discussion involved someone asking what's the best edition to learn from (including retroclones) for total newcomers to D&D, and me recommending Mentzer Basic because I think it's still the best and gives the most advice and tutorial material. Someone castigated me for it, claiming OSE explains timekeeping better (despite having about two pages of introductory material) and because he thinks Frank is a bad person. :/
To be fair that person was absolutely correct :p
