They don't just want to agree on the same thing, they want you to agree with them.
Yeah, or at least they want you to agree with them in just the right way. (see what I did there? ;) )
People talking past each other despite agreeing is a common thing, especially on teh interwebz and especially when the imagined disagreement actually boils down to how a thing is said rather than what is said.

I know I often fail in my own restraint, but I do spend a lot more time not posting than posting nowadays. That's because often what I want to say is not truly a reaction to someone else's position. Instead- if I'm being honest- it's a reaction to what I perceive as someone else's presumptuousness or combativeness or obfuscation or some other quality that happens to irk me at that moment in time because I'm gassy or something.

Sometimes I wish that I could "mod" D&D in the same way that I mod Skyrim: you know, have a downloadable catalog of free mods at my fingertips, all made from a handy creation kit that uses a standard format and automatically detects conflicts and writes patches. Just pick the adjustments I want to make, install them, grab some patches, and presto! The game works just the way I wanted. Right?

And then I spend 4 days trying to patch Complete Alchemy and Crafting Overhaul, only to have it corrupt my save file and force me to restart from that wretched cart-ride to Helgen, and then I'm all "ya know what? Maybe playing the game as-written isn't such a bad idea after all. At the very least I'd still be playing it right now."

Sometimes I want to patch the players.

"I know that you sent us a list of books we could use in character creation, but could I just use Feat X from Splatbook Y? Why not?!"

That book is 3rd edition PHB that also included the cool little cd for character generation
They switched to using Pathfinder, later on, because they has an agreement with Paizo both for distribution, and for use of their material in the films. Paizo also provided a Metric Buttload of misprints to be used in the "church book burning" at the end of their version of "Dark Dungeons", based on the Chick Tract of the same name.
