Boston has its own lettuce?

I think there're two types — Boston Bibb and Boston Lettuce. I haven't a clue why it's called Boston, though, and even less of one as to whether it's Boston, MA or Boston, Lincolnshire, or, I suppose named after a hypothetical John Boston, lettuce farmer.

I'm from Boston, too, and I feel like Boston's just provincial enough that if it had a huge Boston connection there would've been a lettuce-themed Red Sox or Celtics jersey. But definitely curious to know if I just missed all the lettuce propaganda (leaflets?) when I was there.

Why is the concept of "this creative work wasn't aimed at someone like me" an impossible concept for people to grasp?

If millions or even just thousands of people enjoy something, there's a pretty good chance the creator was on to something.

Boston lettuce is more often known as Green Butter lettuce, and is a variety of Bibb lettuce. No idea where the Boston name came from - nobody seems to know as far as I can tell. Google tells me that it was originally grown for its edible roots and shoots but is generally now considered a leafy vegetable.
