Yeah, I re-listened to it on Audible recently, and it is very of-its-time. While I'd love to see an adaptation of it, it's hard to see how it could be made contemporary while still keeping all its themes intact.

I think Stephenson's best work may be Cryptonomicon, which has aged a bit but is a ton of fun. Although I did enjoy the Baroque Cycle more on my second reading than the first.

It would be weird if they tried, yeah. I mean it also has some things wouldn't play well to modern audiences, however if he re-wrote it, the basic idea of the novel with the Snow Crash would work maybe.

True, I think Cryptonomicon would work best as a film out of his stuff I have read, definitely as a ww2 romp.

It's so dense, though. You'd have to trim so much out of it to fit it into a film.

It's not my favorite work of his (though I did enjoy it quite a bit in the reading), but Reamde might make a decent film. It's lighter than his other works and has some pretty cinematic set pieces.

I think the best work of his to make a movie out of is Interface, but I haven't read anything past Quicksilver.
