Glass and some kinds of paper can be, but the latter is selective, and comparatively little glass is used as trash compared to what once was. Plastic, unfortunately, is currently pretty intractable.

I was kinda joking. This thread can turn on a dime but I really like this little side quest.

Yeah, and it really doesn't help that pretty much anything you buy is "self-contaminating" with several different plastics found on a single piece of trash (e.g., a plastic bottle with label, adhesive and cap all of different types of plastic).
Unfortunately, that that little recycling symbol is basically just a marketing ploy nowadays, to make products look "greener" than they actually are, and to shift responsibility off manufacturers and onto consumers.

It's always worth it to make the effort, but it's frustrating that our economy is structured to make it practically impossible to do the right thing, for pretty much anything.

The customer does have power in this, though. If everyone starts switching to glass jars (my maraschino cherries come in glass as well as plastic) and opt for bamboo for their cheap home furnishings instead of plastic, you're telling industry to invest more in those. I've certainly noticed a lot of bamboo products in recent years. Our home office is almost entirely furnished in it.

I've certainly noticed a lot of bamboo products in recent years. Our home office is almost entirely furnished in it.

The problem with the former is that there are only a limited number of products that come in glass any more. As an example, I couldn't buy my milk in glass if I wanted to; even cardboard is uncommon, especially in the sizes I buy.

So, its essentially hard to provide customer pressure toward X when no one is doing X.

I am in two leagues. One snake redraft that I wont know order until 1 hour before draft on Tuesday. Sunday I have an auction cap draft which I never feel prepared for!

We all pick a side on any and every topic, but when the people on the opposite side are saying that they actually represent the exact opposite of what you are claiming is true, and you fail to address them or their concerns, and THEN disparage them on top if it all with a sneaky comment in your response?
