"I propose the - thread to counteract all the + threads."

"What would someone do in a minus thread?"

"Argue unceasingly against those who in a just world would be proclaimed from the rooftops as objectively wrong!"

"So, just like everything that isn't a plus thread now?"

"No!!! Some of those are 0 threads, or might have the mod come in to...."

Disconnecting only helps when the players aren't the type who scoop up their 1s before anyone can see what they rolled, then declaring it a 4. Or maybe a 20.

I don't mind lack of balance, as long as the game is fun. If I can make a character that I enjoy playing without someone specifically trying to overshadow what I've built, on purpose, I'm good. I like to come up with character concepts and then make them fit the rules as best I can, rather than looking at the rules and wondering how badly I can break them. Sometimes I even come up with something that's mechanically impressive, but that's mostly by accident.

The problem, of course, is that in poorly balanced games someone can overshadow you largely by accident; they take something as a secondary focus just because it seems to make sense, and the particulars of their character type make it better at it than your dedicated character for that purpose. It wasn't hard for that to happen with a native Earth character in TORG unless you aimed at Reality Boy.

Many years ago, in the 1e days, I had a player who would roll his dice so hard that they would frequently roll right off the table. The rule was that if it's not on the table, the roll doesn't count, because I wanted to see the rolls. After a while I realized that he was letting the bad rolls slide off the table and saving the good ones, so my rule became "if it's off the table, it's a fail."
Back in the days of 3.5E, I had a guy come up with a peculiar dice cheat. His character was a Fighter, and was about 15th level and all about two-weapon fighting, so he would frequently need to roll four, maybe five d20s every turn when using the Full Attack action. To save time, he asked if he could "roll all of them at once" and I allowed it.

After just three rounds of combat, I noticed he was sorting his attacks in ascending order (applying the highest attack bonus to the lowest roll, then the second-highest bonus to the second-lowest roll, etc.) so that they all averaged out. He was also applying the highest damage rolls to his critical hits, and leaving the lowest damage rolls to his misses. Thus, he rarely missed his target and always did above-average damage. I guess he thought nobody would notice?

To fix it: I made him a special set of color-coded d20s to use, "to help avoid confusion" I said.

"All you gotta do is follow the color wheel: red first, then orange, then yellow, then green, then blue. Pretty cool, huh? I even color-coded the damage dice too, so that you don't have to wonder which roll to apply critical damage to." He tried to politely decline, saying something about how he likes all his dice to match, so I suggested using the position of the dice as they landed: "read them from left to right, maybe?"

Suddenly he didn't want to roll them all at once anymore.

All I will say is that it's possible to have a secondary focus in Torg Eternity. Pun, sadly, not desired.

If I ever played a Core Earth character in TORG, it would be in order to work towards something. Like a character who is into Anime and starts incorporating bits of Pan Pacifica into himself. It would be a starting point, not and end unto itself.

Oh, yes. I've also seen that one. Single attack rolls only because, "You never know if you'll overkill an opponent and then waste the rest of your rolls" ;)

I had to suffer and so must you all
