Dear Diary Thread,

Today, I resisted the urge to laugh react to a post in a (+) thread referring to something I said in a different thread as "hateful", and instead put them (back) on ignore.

I think that's progress, right?

Arguably, real progress would have whipping out one of Elektra's reads from Pose.

I know you have two faces, but three chins is remarkable!

But we have to keep things copacetic, amirite?

Is that a fat joke? Cuz I don't roll with fat jokes. I honestly can't tell, I never watched Pose (I know I should though!).

But yes, we must keep it copacetic. Turning someone's observation about the worst consequences of embracing bigotry and making it out like it was a direct attack against a person in an extremely vulnerable position right now is keeping things copacetic, right? That's how that works?

You totally should watch Pose. Although ... it can be more than a little heartbreaking.

Well, to quote the learned sage, Weird Al ....

A local boy kicked me in the butt last week
I just smiled at him and I turned the other cheek...

Pretty much.

That's part of what I was worried about. Watching those kinds of bummers happen in fiction when it's already part of your lived experiences can be exceptionally hard to get through.

A true philosopher, always wise beyond his years. <nods solemnly>

Well, it's also incredibly funny and joyous. But ... it does take place in the '80s, which was the dark ages compared to what was just before, and what is now, for the communities depicted.

Fortunately, said local will quietly put themselves on ignore when their bad actions are called out, making things at least a little brighter for people who think that there's no justification for that kind of misbehavior. ;)

I have no idea what you guys were talking about. I was busy slapping a pizza crust onto a KoolAid wrapper, badly, in MS Paint, for the sake of a cheap laugh. Is bigotry rearing its ugly head again?
