Gross, I'm sorry that happened. I run as a DPS primarily, although I've got characters of all roles, and I don't encounter that, but I also wouldn't be the subject of it. (I'm also on an RP server, which has less RP than I'd like, but generally better behaved players.)

The good news is that they've just announced that the new expansion will have solo-to-five-person scalable "delves" that will reward gear up to heroic raid level gear. So you can play solo or just with the people you want to hang with (I mostly group with my wife nowadays) and still get a really robust experience.

That might be something to look into, depending on how it’s implemented. My wife also played so if there’s enough stuff to enjoy as a duo, that might be fun.

I keep wanting to like WoW, but man the community is toxic beyond redemption. I resubbed to try Dragonflight, ran a dungeon as a tank where I clearly said I’ve never run this before so let me go slow and figure out what the monsters do, had the healer respond “thank you, I’m new and have never healed so a bit nervous to screw up”. Immediately we had to have a DPS cause a wipe by being stupid and pulling the entire first wing of the dungeon because “my other group handled it fine”. One of the other DPS said we were all a homophobic slur and dropped group. His replacement? Rinse and repeat, down to the same homophobic slur.

I’m 44 years old. I don’t need that in my life. lol

I played WoW pretty hardcore up until midway through Battle for Azeroth. And I played the first season of Classic. But the story went in directions that didn't grab me, and the player base became more and more elitist, so that it started feeling more like a second job than a game: had to carefully plan my time and activities to make sure everything was optimized for raid night.

I've considered coming back, especially when classic Wrath dropped, but then I think about situations like you describe and wonder whether I need that in my life while I get back up to speed. Though If I ever do return I have a paladin with millions in gold waiting for me (that was a pretty good bankroll when I left; maybe it's a drop in the bucket now).

Maybe if I found a guild of like-minded veterans.

My wife and I both played more hours of FFXI than either of us would like to admit. For some reason, XIV never really grabbed us. I probably should give it a try again to see if my perspective has changed.

The story is getting a big change in direction, along with a ton of new quality of life improvements in the last expansion and future ones. It seems like the gross folks who were ousted in the #MeToo scandals also had some pretty retrograde ideas about the game.

They just announced their next three expansions, which will be focused on Azeroth as a Titan, a void invasion, exploring the interior of the planet, etc. It's pretty much a classic storyline, which makes sense, since Chris Metzen has come back out of retirement to oversee the WoW story.

You know it's odd, I hear stories of toxicity but I may have been blessed by whoever that I haven't ran into them myself.

My biggest issue is that my current internet speed is 14.0 Mbps download/ 2.81Mbps upload

Yep. The Wow community is practically radioactive. Try Final Fantasy 14. The community is amazing and the free trial is out of this world.

I tried it early on, so probably before the reboot. My wife tried it probably 3 years ago, I can't remember what she didn't like about it but it's possible it was just playing solo since I didn't want to play (we were playing vanilla classic wow at the time and I didn't want to play 2 MMOs). If the free trial is a good deal, it's probably worth giving a try again.
