Huh. It's always weird to discover someone has blocked you that to your knowledge you've never interacted with and have no memory of ever even reading any posts by that person.

Look, I know I can be an abrasive ass sometimes, but, I DO try to keep myself contained to a very small number of threads.

I love getting in discussion with big fans of the original Assassin's Creed games who hate the newer ones. "But the story!" I mean, the modern-day story was always, always weaker than the Ancient World gameplay. That was the point! Most people didn't play AC games to run around a modern corporate office building, they wanted to climb on Notre Dame or the pyramids! The modern games lean into it a lot, with very few chapters in the modern day to advance the metaplot in exceedingly minor ways. But that's fine -- people want to run around ancient Greece or Norway; I can play all sorts of better games to run around modern-day ruins, like say Lara Croft: Shadow of the Tomb Raider!

The Menu was an excellent film

OMG. That movie was SO GOOD!

(Two other recommendations- Infinity Pool, directed by Brandon "Son of David" Cronenberg, currently streaming in Hulu, and Triangle of Sadness, which is also streaming on Hulu).

If you combine the three into a triple-feature, you get a nice horror/capitalism triptych!

I think the real question is why they keep insisting on including the modern day part of the franchise.

I don’t hate the newer games, but I was one of the smaller number of people who actually really liked the modern plot more and was hoping that would be expanded on further in future games. I really wanted to see what a modern day assassins vs templars game would be like if that was the full focus (with bits of gameplay and quest allowing us to dove into different pasts to gather information and lost locations). So when Desmond was killed off and the modern plot became a significantly less important part of the stories moving forward, I started losing interest.

That’s not to say the later games were bad by any means. From what little I have seen they look great. But I realized that the franchise was moving away from the things I really enjoyed story wise and I just accepted it wasn’t for me anymore.

I might pick it back up one day but for now I haven’t been really motivated to do so.

I just get bogged down in Assassin's Creed games and don't end up finishing them. I've played through about 2/3rds of Black Flag, Origins and Odyssey, and felt little to no incentive to keep going.
