The IR Aftermath Campaign Characters

Comments on the 'final' characters:

Draco: your rifle cannot have the Sure Striking enhancement.

Xoa: Are you certain that Use Magic Device is a Monk skill?

And then there is a general comment on the, in my eyes, dishonest gain of money by restricting alignment. What you guys are doing is sad. What if every enemy we encounter (or at least all the high level NPCs) do the same thing? Do you think that's going to be fun? Do you think that it is realistic (D&D realistic that is)? Do you think that "cost to create" and "market value x2" are the same? If you do, you're wrong: read the section on wands, and I hope you will see the difference between those two things. If you then still not believe me, check out the Full Plate of the Children of the Earth (a full plate restricted to dwarves and gnomes), and check out the price. If you still don't see what I mean, you either don't want to or are incredibly stupid...

Kal, I ask you to revise this ruling. It makes no sense, and is, in my point of view, totally unrelated to 'character flavor' but to money.

Who would've thought to hear those words from a munchkin eh?

Use Magic Device isn't a monk skill. Sure Striking comment is also correct only melee weapons can have it.

The Helmed Horror will cost the same price as a Clay Golem.

As to the items I'd like to hear some more on it from everybody.

I altered my ring..only 2 uses per day no alignment restriction.
I have to keep the alignment restriction on my armor though. Otherwise I cant get much else due to the price of my armor.
I can see why armor made by druids, for druids, would have an alignment restriction on it.

DW: but do you understand that Market Value and Cost to Create x2 are two different things, and that you *thus* should pay more for you armor, instead of getting a 30% discount?

'o skoteinos- umm, you realize that if an item has an alignment restriction, then, it is HARDER to find someone who will buy it? Thus, with a lesser demand, the cost will also be decreased. One more thing, it seems to me you spend more time nit-picking everybody else's characters than actually worrying about how your own may/may not break rules (i.e.- good only game). If he was really worried about repenting, don't you think he might get rid of the helmed horror? Besides, it makes sense that you're complaining about the alignment restriction on cost, having it doesn't benefit you, but others :P (none of the above was intended to strike offense with you)

Kal- would you allow the sure-striking ability for a ranged weapon for a +2 enchantment bonus?

Mr draco, a friend and I had the same discussion we are having now, about alignment restrictions and decreased cost. My view was the same as yours, his view was the same as mine now. He had the following reasoning:

Although it is indeed harder to find someone to buy that specific piece of equipment, for you the alignment is not a restriction but a benifit. You are certain noone else (well, except for people of the same alignment) can use your equipment. When you get captured, for example, the enemy won't be able to use your weapons against you. Yes, purely theoretical this should decrease the price, but if you look at game balance, the price should be increased (and the armor I referred to had its price inceasd)...

Your comment about modern day market working (?) has nothing to do with the amount of magic that has to be put into an item to stop 8 alignments from using it...

Then the comment on how I cannot use the alignment restrictions. That is true, BUT I restricting a piece of equipment to a specific class, say Wizard, is enough to get that 30% discount. If Kal isn't going to put an end to this non sense, then I will "restrict" my equipment to Wizards, meaning I get even more money and XP...

Futher, I do intent to get rid of that Helmed Horror. It is my personal quest to put the souls of my family to rest, but if I simply destroy the HH, I think (and maybe it will, because only Kal know how it functions) the souls will go to Mephistoteles. And that's why I want to find / create a (10th level) spell / ritual with which I can free my family.

This is not a Good Only game. Kal has said something like: Lawful Neutral with Evil tendencies is ok ... but don't push it.

Really, I am not violating any rules...if you think I am, tell me which ones, and I will explain why I am not violating them...

And Mr. Draco, I'm not offended, because I am right, and you are not ... :D

I'd have to disagree with that. If you are captured the enemy does not really need to use your own weapons against you, as you have already been removed as a threat.

On the other hand, if you were killed or simply knocked unconcious, your fellow party members would not be able to utilize your equipment because it has the alignment restriction, unless you are adventuring in a party of nothing but Paladins. ;)

Your fellow party members will also find it harder to sell the item because of the heavy restrictions on it, as few want a weapon they can use only when they remain with the same philosophical beliefs they have had their whole life, with no option for change.

I really disagree that it should cost the same as any other weapon, and I completely and totally disagree that it should cost more. YMMV, but I think that putting alignment restrictions on an item is more of a penalty than a bonus.

Well, how do you know that destroying it will send the souls to Meph? Perhaps it will free them to go on to their just reward. Of course we don't know, but at our party level that shouldn't be a problem. Just ask Festys character to cast Commune and ask if destroying the Helmed Horror would send the souls to Meph, and if not, where exactly would they go.

If it's revealed that they would be freed to go on to their just reward, I think the Helmed Horror should be destroyed. If not, we'll try and help you free them, of course, but I think we should at least find out first if destroying it now will free your families souls before deciding on a course of action.
