The Mist and the Moon

'Right Lads, let's go Slay some Ogres'
Froederich cleared his throat and began as the quartet headed onwards to the Ogre Lair

'Heroes come in many types'
'Warriors swing swords, Bards blow Pipes'
'But one thing holds them together as One'
'Tis a willingness to come through'
'and defeat Evil's Crew'
'In the end getting the job Rightly Done'

The Gnome waited for the innevitable snorts of derrision from a certain Pony, but Britengeisling
was happily munching clover at the edge of town, unaware of the Verse, so Froederich walked on without the critic's comments for once. He missed it, truth be told, and wished this business done quickly, so as to return to his friend.

You slide down the river bank to the ogre hole. The dark yawning mouth of the cave is larger than it appeared from the top, though you suspect that an ogre still might have to duck to get through.
Peeking in, you see a long chamber leading back north into the darkness, like a wide passageway or a foyer. It is littered with bones and noisome debris, but it appears to be empty. At the north end of the chamber, a door has been built into the rock. Millathos notices that there is a baseboard along the bottom of the chamber's wall, and scraps of plaster left upon the wall itself. It rather looks as if the place were once a halfling burrow, or that of a gnome.
The chamber extends approximately twenty-five feet north, and is about ten feet wide.

'Now we see what's afoot,eh lads?'
Froederich grins and slides the wicked battle axe Glimmerlicht from it's resting place upon his back.'Come Glimm, let us slay Ogres again. We'll write a SOnnet in their Blood afterwords and toast friend Dagnos with a Pint.'

Having spoken their piece, the heroes tarry outside for a time, each waiting for another to take the first actual step into the cave.....................

"Well, I guess I'll go first then...'
Froederick enters, trying to be quiet and keeping Glim at the ready. At the first hint of something
(Listen) I'll cast Magic Weapon on Glimm.
'C'mon lads, let's settle a score for these good Folk.'
OOC: I'm advancing to the Door, Move Silently (untrained) roll as well as Listen as permits.
As I said, Magic Weapon at the first sign of an enemy (hopefully getting it off before we are swamped with Ogres and an Initiative roll)

"Careful, let's not rush into things." Xes says softly. "Let's have a look first."

He begins examining the grounds for ogre tracks.

OOC: Wilderness Lore of +4, plus the Track feat, in case that helps. Specifically, I'm looking for indications that there are indeed ogres that use this cave, and after that, I'm trying to figure out the number based on different track types.

After a while, Xes looks up, satisfied with what he's found. He picks up a small stone from the ground and casts light on it, and then quickly places it in a pocket to smother the glow. Then Xes brandishes his staff and follows Froederick cautiously towards the door.

OOC: Once we see the ogres and it's obvious they've seen us, I'll toss the pebble on the ground to reduce any visibility penalties. (Though of course if there's already a source of light where we find the ogres, I obviously won't need to do that.) My first action when I see the ogres will be to cast shillelagh on my quarterstaff. Other than that, I'm doing the same thing Froederick is doing: untrained Move Silently quietly towards the door.

Millathos begins to sweat. He quietly draws a dagger and stays noticibley behind (thinking cover!) a couple of other people. He moves silently in a more...trained way.

GE;)
