Ok, Peter Jackson makes 3 epic fantasy films where the pretty boy elf does everything better then the dwarf.
Then you have Narina, in witch one of the main bad guys is a dwarf.
Also, a scene in the orginal DnD movie that was filmed shows the dwarf being a dwarf and fighting good. That scene was cut from the final cut of the movie. Its on the DVD thou. Also, in the DnD movie sequel, dwarves were cut all together.

How come the movie indrusry put dwarves in such a bad light? Why are they scared of dwarves? ;)

Dwarves are hard working, industrious, loyal, honorable, and disciplined.

Elves are flighty, vain, self-important, flaky-artistic tree-huggers who love to view themselves as perfect in every way.

Which one do you think that Hollywood types are going to empathize with more? ;)

That was great!

We can hope for Jackson to do the Hobbit. That would have plenty of dwarves.

Given that both LOTR and Narnia were based on books, and D&D was loosely based on both of them and a whole bunch of other books, wouldn't the better question be why is the BOOK industry racist against dwarves? ;)

Of course, you add Time Bandits to the discussion and it swings back toward the movie industry being the more anti-Dwarf...

Probably because Norse mythology put them in bad light.

Besides, we've yet to see if Hobbit film will be made. Of course the question now becomes, why should we use scaled-down version of normal-height human actors (CG-assisted) when we have an abundance of dwarf-sized human actors in Hollywood?

Reading Terry Brooks's Shannara series when I was younger, I couldn't help but notice that almost all of his dwarf characters get killed off by the end of the story. I can only think of a couple of exceptions. There are two things you can always count on with a Terry Brooks novel: 1) there will be at least 10 repetitions of the phrase "There was stunned silence", and 2) the dwarf will bite the dust.

What you need to do is take a deep breath, and go back to watch the movie that started it all...

Hi Ho! (Hi Ho!) Hi Ho!

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It's off to work we go...

(Guess which dwarf I identify with... :p)

The Auld Grump

In early Arthurian literature (Chretien de Troyes and the like), you can never trust the dwarves--they are always treacherous and evil. Those were real life dwarves though, but still, they've been cast in a bad light by countless tales.
