The official EN World puppy/doggo thread

Last night, our beloved 13yo border collie got out of our yard via a gate left open by the lawn crew. 12 hours later, we got her back…but we almost lost her permanently.

She had fallen into a drainage ditch and couldn’t get out. Fortunately, a nearby homeowner’s daughter and his pool guy heard her barking up the storm drain, and he got her out. She was covered in twigs from thorny bramble bushes, and smelly from the muddy algae covered water.

Right now, she’s been bathed, trimmed & fed. She’s got a slight limp, but hopefully that’s a minor injury + exhaustion.

HOWEVER

I’ve been contacted by several scammers who claimed to have found her and asking about rewards…AFTER I already had her home.

The last scammer was the worst: he claimed to be an animal control officer informing us about a complaint that we’d violated the leash laws and were being fined. He wanted to do some kind of transaction over the phone, but the more he talked, the more he tipped off that he was a scammer. When he tried to tell me the court clerk wanted to do these transactions contactless, I identified myself as a lawyer who deals with court clerks all the time and would happily have a face to face with the clerk.

He hung up.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: there’s no situation so bad that people can’t make it worse.
Glad you got your girl back safely. Must have been a terrible 12 hours!

Can't believe the scammers. Well, actually I can, unfortunately.
