What's a reasonable length for a short pdf review? I had a hard enough time stretching out a lab report let alone some 4 page pdf (including the OGL).

As i said above, 500 words minimium but 750 is a good place to aim.

I am now reviewing a PDF that contains 4.5 pages of gaming content. Coming up with 500 words is not easy, unless going for entirely reprint the material...

Now, as one said much earlier, I tend to skip reviews that are an endless stream of words. May i suggest not too long reviews, and to clearly delineate paragraphs, with sub-titles, bold headers, and the like.

Where is it written that the review should always be a certain length? I'd understand the need to create a short review of a 4.5 page pdf.

I don't think it's a hard rule but a good guideline. You make it too long, people lose focus halfway through. You make it too short and people think "Pffft. Did he even read it?"

That's what I usually do. I've done two so far, working on the third. My first one was a little over 450 words and the last one was around 650. I think 500 is a good number to shoot for as it's not too short and not too long. Even Goldilocks will read it! :)

Heh. "Too long" might well describe my C&C review and the HARP review I just posted. I'm nothing if not thorough. :)

Crothian, I'll take something short if you have it. I don't want to review another HARP book. They're too long. :)

500 words or more, and it is a hard rule.

Then it needs to go on the FAQ page for reviews. The only way I would know is reading the edit you added yesterday to the first post of this thread. How will any other reviewers know in the future once this thread is buried?
