The Sage on Arcane Archers

AuraSeer

Prismatic Programmer
I just got a reply to a Sage question about Arcane Archer abilities. There was a thread on it a while back, but hell if I'm gonna take the time to dig it up. ;)

My text is plain, the Sage's comments are in bold.
Good morning, sir!
I am a bit confused about the powers of the Arcane Archer prestige class-- specifically, the Phase Arrow and Seeker Arrow powers.

Since the Seeker Arrow can turn corners, it seems that the archer can fire at a target outside her line of sight. Is this correct?

Correct.

If yes, can she fire at a target whose location she does not know?

With a seeker arrow, yes.

For instance, if she sees an orc run through a door but does not know where he went afterward, can she still fire a Seeker or Phase arrow at him?

With a seeker arrow, yes.

The description of these powers states that the archer fires the arrow "at a target known to her within range." Does that mean she only requires personal knowledge of the target?

Yes. The arcane archer must have seen the target or be able to specify the target in some exact way. Such as "Grodnard the orc" or "the first orc the arrow reaches."

If the archer knows what the king looks like, can she stand outside the castle and fire a Phase Arrow at him, letting the arrow figure out where exactly he is?

A phase arrow travels is a straight line, and the arcane archer must aim the arrow at the correct location. The arcane archer could use a seeker arrow to shoot the unseen king, though.

Seems sensible to me. Comments?

Wow, this makes 6 people agreeing with the Sage!

And not a single sage--basher in sight...
:D

As someone who has been known to "denounce" the Sage on occassion, I'd like to address your comment.

But first...

I also agree that this is a good call on the Sage's part. Straight forward enough. Reasonable and well thought out.

Now, back to my opinion of "Sage Bashing".

I don't think people would have anything to rail against if he didn't sometimes make really bad calls (I'm talking about the obviously anti-rules, crack-smoking ones, here).

I don't have anything against him in general. I even realize he has a tough job. . I just wish he'd be more careful and thoughtful when making rulings. That's all.

So, at least in my case, I only tend to get on the Sage's case when he does something bone-headed to deserve it. I don't get snippy just because I like to beat him up. I do it because it's warranted, IMO. But I don't go looking for excuses to "get him".

Anyway, this wasn't exactly on topic, so I'll call it a day.

:)

The really funny part though, is that a lot of the people that I see bash the Sage for a "boneheaded" ruling is because said "bonehead-sage-basher" really did think that the rule worked another way. :D

Ya, many people can't handle it when they are wrong. Luckily for us Kreynolds is used to it, so we have few problems with him :D

Actually, it was his wishy washy answers and the questions he did a 180 degree turn on that got to me.

ok all you need is:

1. 12 levels in rogue
2. Enough levels in AA

What do you have?

The UBER ASSASAIN! Hell all ya gotta do is say "King Phil" and if he's in your 30' range fire away!

Not only do you get arrow damage but sneak attack damage!!! KILL EM ALL!!
