Or they are considered "mean" in retrospect because of the act of shattering childhood illusions. ;) My sister "broke" the story because she didn't realize at 6 that her peers actually believed that story was real. Certainly not a mean kid. (even from the perspective of a little sister. :heh: )

ps, on the babycenter discussion, a lot of pro-literal santa parents felt it was the responsibility of those who didn't partake to train their kids to keep up the illusion around other kids. While its a nice thing if the kid has that level of interpersonal skills, I don't consider it a responsibility by any stretch.
