Devlin stares at the little man back, then looks around the rest of the room again.
The innkeeper, doubling as bartender, couldn't help but notice the impromptu staring contest. "Is he bothering ye?", he asked Devlin. "I warned him earlier that if he kept troubling the other travellers, that he'd either have to go to his room or leave."
Dungannon said:
ooc: Devlin looks for any sort of substance that might resemble the wyvern poison found on the dagger.
Devlin casually glanced around the room for a trace of the black poison that had been found on Thursby's blade. It was a long shot, about as likely as someone leaving a bolt from the quarrel that had killed Thursby, but Devlin was quickly running out of ideas, and a man resorts to odd things when bored. Sure enough, there was no trace of the exotic poison in the common room of an upper-class inn.[/sblock]

[sblock=Ryland: ]"How much did Jobe offer to pay for it?"[/COLOR]Ryland believed that he was finally starting to pry some truth out of the lass. Clearly he was on to something here.Ooc: Np, you're doing great.[/sblock]
[sblock= El Jefe]The cagey gnome gave the woman a wiley look and said, " That probably doesn't matter to you since you're not very interested in it. I mean, it's not like its important to you. Let's just say the offer was substantial".
OOC: The fires are under control, but I will be putting in long hours for the next three days on a rehab plan. I'm hoping I can post once a day.[/sblock]

...But I don't have that much!

Brigit started pacing again. "I don't have that much money", she allowed. "It's probably more than I can ever offer you if I have to bid for your loyalty."

The wily gnome heads towards the door. Before he reaches for the doorknob, he turns and says, "It might help us if you told us who has the orb, or where it is. When we locate it and Archer's killer we can discuss our finder's fee. I can't speak for my partners, but the less you help, the less I'm inclined to put the orb in your hands"

OOC:Ryland will sense motive again. Looks like I'm back to a normal schedule by Monday. Should still be able to manage a post a day until then[/sblock]

I have always depended on the kindness of strangers

Brigit shook her head, hurt. "You don't understand", she exclaimed. "I'm not the one with a lot of money looking to buy it, no questions asked. What I care about is not ending up like Flodal. Oh, Mr. Ryland, can't you help me? Can't you trust me a little longer?"

It occurred to Ryland that it might be a lot of fun to sit Brigit and Brimbor down in the same room, just to see what would happen. He also decided that the girl was genuinely more concerned about the safety of her own neck than she was about the location of some bauble.[/sblock]

Ryland looked at the woman with an exasperated look, "If you can't tell us who is after you then you'll have to sit tight and hope for the best. If you have nothing further to share with me I'll be leaving." Ryland produces his familiar pipe and tobacco, and casually packs the bowl, giving the young woman a chance to answer.

OOC:If she doesn't answer he will leave and look for Devlin and Enialis.

Brigit inhaled sharply, and paused for just a moment. "If Jobe thinks I have it, then whoever is with him will be looking for me. Mr. Ryland, anyone could be looking for that thing. It's worth a lot of money. But the people I've seen Jobe associate with...well, they're much more dangerous than he is. Be careful, Mr. Ryland."

Ryland was aware that she had been answering his questions, just not giving the sort of answers that he liked.[/sblock]

Ryland's features soften slightly, "Be careful yourself, Brigit." Ryland turns and leaves the room. He heads downstairs to gather Enialis and meet Devlin at the Tower Inn.[/sblock]

Ryland took his leave of the pretty brunette, and headed down the stairs to collect Enialis. It was a bit of a chore, as the stairs were clearly not made for one of his stature, but presently he spyed Enialis and motioned for him to leave. The two were soon striding through the streets of Orussus, enjoying the night air as Ryland filled his partner in on what he had learned from Brigit, little though that might have been.

Even with all the twisting streets, one can pretty much get from one part of Orussus to another in less than an hour, so soon the pair arrived at the Tower Inn. Glancing into the common room. They beheld a scene that seemed rather comical to them; the odd little man who had treated Ryland rudely earlier in the day staring holes in Devlin's back while the rogue enjoyed a drink at the bar and glanced around idly. It seemed that Devlin was aware of the other's presence, yet paid him little heed.[sblock=OoC: ]This is just about right, since Dungannon should be back later today. I'm NPCing Enialis, and wouldn't be offended if you guys just parked him somewhere if he gets in the way. Feel free to interact with each other however you see fit.[/sblock]

Ryland turns to Enialis, "Maybe you should hang back and keep an eye on that young man. He's either got something to do with this, or just the village idiot." Leaving the young horseman behind to watch their backs, Ryland takes a spot at the bar near Devlin. "Care to buy an old gnome a drink", he says with a broad wink. "We have some things to discuss if you want to head back to the room after an ale"
