Legendary Easy Rider Dennis Hopper is in talks for a role in "Doctor Who."



The star with a filmography longer than the Nile River and best known for his role as Billy in "Easy Rider," is vying for a guest role in the fourth season of the hit BBC show, according to reports in The Sun. Hopper is expected to play an adversary to David Tennant's Time Lord, although details about that character are not available.

Filming will start in Cardiff later this month.



An unnamed insider said that Hopper "is a big fan of the show and [the show's] bosses are really keen to get him on board. Discussions have been going on for some time but his diary is proving a nightmare to work around. However, everyone is hopeful they can make something work."



"Doctor Who" producers are trying to attract a number of big names to appear on the show in the fourth season, helping to boost its already chart-topping ratings. The series was watched by an average of more than 8 million viewers in the United Kingdom in its third season.



Earlier this week, it was announced that comedienne Catherine Tate, who appeared in the 2006 Christmas special as a "Runaway Bride," will become The Doctor's new time-traveling companion. Freema Agyeman, who joined the show this past season as Martha Jones, will be reduced to a recurring role on both "Doctor Who's" fourth season and "Torchwood's" second season.



"Doctor Who" returns to the United States on the SciFi Channel Friday at 8 p.m. ET, beginning with the Christmas special featuring Tate.

Last weekend, James Marsters talked briefly, though somewhat cryptically, about his guest spot in the upcoming second season of "Torchwood" at the Fangoria convention in New Jersey.


The actor best known to genre fans as Spike in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," said he did a preliminary screening of the episode he shot in Cardiff, Wales, but since then the writers have rewritten the script which means he's heading back across the pond to finish filming his episode.

What should fans expect of Marsters, as he takes on the adult spinoff of "Doctor Who"?

His role is "going to offend some, titillate others - to the point where they would need to finish themselves off afterwards." He also said that Brits are more liberal in their approach to sex and sexuality than Americans, but wouldn't spill the beans on what exactly we'll happen during his stay. However, there were implications that something "omnisexual" was going to happen in the episode.

"Torchwood," an anagram of "Doctor Who," is a secret task force that deals with alien encounters. John Barrowman plays ageless omnisexual time agent Captain Jack Harkness, who leads the Cardiff-based team. The series was created by Russell T Davies, who is responsible for reviving the series "Doctor Who."

"Torchwood" Season 1 will air on BBC America beginning Sept. 9.

Well, we can certainly count on him to be a slimy bad guy. I absolutely wanted his character in Speed to die. Had no idea he was such a fan of the show. Be interesting to see what role they give him.
