The Tol Haggerun Prophecy 3.5 D&D - [Ended]

Insight, I think you may be confusing east and west. Jacoby is heading east into the mountains. Actually, looking at the map of Derev that you sent me, I notice that there are snowflake symbols on the southern mountains ranges. Is Derev perhaps in the southern hemisphere where the temperature gets colder as you head south rather than north? If so, I might have to change my plan and head south to find the snows. Then Again, maybe the map is drawn with south towards the top...

Derev is indeed in the southern hemisphere! North is the top of the map.

In terms of direction, you are following the dashed line you added to the area map. Perhaps it more of a north-northwest, based on what you drew on the map. In any event, you are currently following that dashed line, unless otherwise stated.

You can change your path if you wish. You are in a climate, however, where in certain parts of the year (such as now), it could snow in the mountains anywhere, given high enough elevation, and other factors. Assume that the places with snowflakes are always arctic (or at least cold), whereas in other places, snowfall is more of a seasonal thing.

Is it a human village or another halfling community? Is it unusual that Jacoby doesn't know a neighbouring village or is Amberlea just really insular? :o

Jacoby would probably know there are human-dominated villages in the area, but might not be that knowledgeable about them. Of course, you could get closer and find out.

Cool intro James, your character's family is huge! It's nice to see another PC on the move even if neither of us have a destination in mind. :D
You know how it is: the sea, the sand, nothing else to do on your primitive island....

He's an earthy sort of druid, for certain.

Well that certaintly clears up a few things. ;)

Unless I'm crazy, I'm afraid that you've confused east and west. The dashed line on my map shows Jacoby heading to the right. Going to the right means I'm heading east. New York is on the east coast, Los Angeles is on the west coast. :heh:

The way I was looking at it, Jacoby starts slightly north-northwest and then intends to head east once he gets to the mountains, given the location of the pass he wants to use. He has only just started, so he has probably only done the first dash or two of that line.

EDIT: Um, OK I am crazy! I just looked at your map again, and it is pretty much due east. For some reason, I had a different picture in my head of what you were doing. I'll correct the text in the IC post.

Oh good! I thought I was loosing my mind over here. Good to hear I'm not completly nuts.

Just so everyone knows, I am not going to post any more replies until we hear from the players for Sharma and Ralan. I don't want them to get too far behind in all of this. I have just posted to Clare's and Shuelsai's initial posts, so we are all settled up for now. Hopefully, we can get into second and third posts next week.

Also, I need to know where Clare is starting. I got the idea it was in Lurien, but I need a more specific location. I can make one up if you're not sure or don't care, but I figure I should let the player decide.

Just how dangerous is sea travel near Kurst? I was thinking that I wouldn't have to worry about pirates since I'm a little half-naked man on a fishing boat, but now I'm wondering if Shuelsai might not play it sly because of press gangs and slavers and such. I'm not asking if this one specifically is such, but slaver activity would significantly change the way I respond? Knowing whether or not I could possibly outrun the other ship, in general terms, might be useful too.

There is definitely piracy going on in and around Shiven. This activity is mostly south of Shiven in the Mercantile Sea, although it is not entirely unheard of for pirates to go north looking for island tribesmen to bolster their crews. This is considered the normal course of things in terms of piracy, and is not thought of as slavery in that sense.

Speaking of slavery, that is a sore subject. Both Mitea and Lurien were forced into using slaves during their last war, because both kingdoms were running so low on resources, it was inevitable. Again, slaves did not come from within the Luri or Mitean cultures, but from island tribesmen in colonial areas. Mitean and Luri leaders downplay the role of slavery in the war, and have officially outlawed slavery in their lands (this is not to say slavery does not happen, but it is illegal). Kurst, Shiven, and Refel do not use slaves, and frown on those that do.

The merchant guilds also frown on the use of slaves, though they do not have official prohibitions against slavery. There have been rumors of slave ships hitting the islands around where Shuelsai lives, so his initial thoughts that this ship could be a slaver is not that unthinkable. Perhaps some additional investigation is in order...
