The Treasure of the Tierra Padre... [Knight Otu Judging]

Oirhandir suspects that the wide sluggishness of the river is most likely due to the broad lowlands of the swamp lands, which are probably flooded by the Gallgo along its entire length. he wouldn't expect the river to narrow until they at least traveled up stream of the swamps... A journey that, with the current lack of trails and roads, could take days.

With a heavy sigh, Oirhandir acquiesces to the obvious as he slips down from the saddle. "I suppose we shouldn't have expected it to be easy", he observes. The elf strides back to the mule where his staff is loaded and retrieves the slender pole. Probing from the riverbank, he directs to Rogier, "If we can't find a shallow spot in a few minutes, we might as well swim for it."

Oirhandir finds that the water itself isn't very deep, but the thick, clinging, silty mud of the river bed makes progress a definite chore. Halfway across the river, the water only comes up to his waist. The mud, however, is nearly knee-deep and almost sucks his boots right off his feet at every step.

[OoC: Same result to Rogiers prodding? If so:]

"Hm, it doesn't seem like we'll find an easy pass here. Maybe we can construct some sort of bridge, so we don't have to leave the horses behind? Or take the risk that they'll get stuck in the mud?"

Rogier starts looking around for anything that could function as a bridge, large pieces of wood, maybe some nearby tree which could be cut down, or anything that he seems fit.

[OoC: With Kahuna and Rocco out/NPCed, and no post by msd in two weeks, are we still continueing this quest?]

OOC: Ooops... Missed that. Sorry. :o

At this point, the river is far too wide to bride with anything short of a major feat of engineering. The depth of the river here is shallow enough to ford, but the mud will turn it into a messy chore.

OOC: Unless you guys want to turn back, I'll keep going.

[OoC: I'll vote for keep going then. Are the missing characters NPCed or removed?]

Thinking of a way to get the horses to the other side of the river, he looks if there is a way to cross rope across the river, so they can hold that while crossing.

[OoC: Rogier has a 150ft hemp rope.]

OOC: I'm treating them as NPCs for now. They'll take no extraordinary actions unless requested to.

There are a few trees growing near the river that might be just close enough to string the rope across... an extra coil of rope would make it a sure thing.

"Anyone have some more rope?" Rogier asks when he fears his won't be enough.
If noone objects and someone has a rope, Rogier will combine them, take off his boots and tie the rope between trees on this side of the river, cross it (not letting go of the rope, and using it to pull himself free if he gets stuck), and tie it down on the other side as well. After that they can start transporting the goods.

"Let me see if I can help", called the elf as he watched Rogier begin to string the rope. Oirhandir had no rope of his own, but he recalled that Rupert seems to have provisioned against every contingency. Oirhandir started rummaging through the goods that Rupert had packed for the journey, hoping to find a coil of rope.
