The Treasure of the Tierra Padre... [Knight Otu Judging]

'There.. good.. take this and leave...'
Along with his sooting whisper, Razir carefully throws the last big piece of almost-bacon from breakfast to the croc.
Avoiding swift motions as much as possible, the Half-Elf aims somewhat to the side of the crocodiles maw, hoping to convince the beast to head back into the swamp.

OoC:
I'll mark off a Days Ration
Throwing would be +3 (Dex Bonus) I guess if a roll were to be made.

OOC: What's on the side of the path? Can we tell if there's any hard ground or is it obvious we'll sink in mud if we go there?

OOC: The pack animals are at the pack. They are getting very nervous, but aren't bolting yet. The 'path' is a wide stretch of damp and spongy earth approximately 30' wide. To either side of this 'dry' path, is muddy, shallow (ankle-deep) swamp water. A knee-deep channel of water cuts across the path just in front of you all; it is in this channel of water that the crocodile had been hiding.

More in a bit.

Gath, att:+6, dam:1d10+8 (1 point in power att), ac:16, hp:36

Seeing that this standoff will get them nowhere and that there isn't a way they can go around the scaly monster, Gath takes a step back [OOC: 5-foot step, if this is possible], cries out a loud 'SMASH!' and brings his glaive down on the creature.

As Gath swings his polearm at the huge reptile, Oirhandir's chimes ring out a tune of heroism. This creature must let them pass!

OoC: Readied action, Inspire Courage

"Oh gosh. Well, I guess we have to fight this thing now. And I have no useful spells against such a monster..."

Iggy will release a crossbow bolt. He aims for the back legs area to avoid hitting Gath. (+5 1d6)

Razir pulls the biggest, greasiest hunk of almost-bacon he can rummage out of his pack, and tosses it toward the crocodile. It lands near the croc with a small plopping splash of mud.

The croc, still keeping a wary eye toward the armed warriors, creeps close enough to the chunk of meat until it can make a quick lunge and snap it up. In two big gulps, he swallows the morsel whole.

While the creature is distracted, Gath takes one big step backward to get a better swing in, and attacks with his polearm. The long-poled blade finds a chink in the beast's armor, and slashes deep into its flank. 15 damage.

The crocodile spins to snap at the shaft of the offending glaive; Rogier follows up by darting in and bringing his heavy battleaxe down upon the back of the reptile's neck. The massive axe bites deep, and nearly severs the head of the crocodile. 8 damage.

The crocodile thrashes for a moment, splashing everyone with copious amounsts of mud and water, before it finally rolls over and dies.

Round 3:

Combat Summary: Razir distracts the crocodile with a piece of meat long enough for Gath and Rogier to kill it with two swift blows. Combat ends.

Oirhandir was amazed at the speed with which the massive beast was dispatched. This was the first chance he'd had to see his new companions in action, and he had to admit that their prowess at arms far exceeded his.

He returned the chimes to his pack, and paused to consider whether they should try to augment their rations with some fresh meat. At the very least, the hide of the beast should be of some value.

OoC: Does that count as today's use of Inspire Courage, or did Oirhandir blink and miss the attacks?

Almayce nods slightly. "Nice.", he comments. *Gath seems to know how to handle that large meat cleaver of his.* "Shall we carry on?"

OOC: Nope... The poor beasty was down long before your initiative count came up. You never even got a chance to open your mouth. ;)
