Can you explain Moon vs. Nature?

Yep, that remained me of Glorantha. But that rpg-world is really heavy with real-life myth borrowing.

Certainly. The moon is associated with lycanthropy and other unnatural occurances; it is often attributed to 'strange' and sometimes 'alien' happenings.

I am not personally familiar with Glorantha; though obviously I have done a little research into mythology myself!

Am I Ao?

Hi all!

I was reading over the 2nd Ed. Forgotten Realms supplement Faiths & Avatars (very good book by the way) when I came across this poignant extract:

Exactly how much worship and how many followers it takes for powers to rise (or sink) within the ranks is unknown. It is evident that some sort of divine formula for the rating of deific ability has been enacted by Ao, but he has never revealed it to the powers themselves...

I don't know about Love and Chaos being Lust. It's plausible, I suppose it depends on which portfolio passion would fall under. Because lust can be seen as overly passionate love. What about Love + Nature? Nature itself seems to be full of passion so Lust could be one of them, although thats an awfully specific use for nature. Another plausible possibility could be Love + Life? Lust as defined by dictionary.com is:

lust
n.
1. Intense or unrestrained sexual craving. 2.a. An overwhelming desire or craving: a lust for power. 2.b. Intense eagerness or enthusiasm: a lust for life. 3. Obsolete. Pleasure; relish.

So since lust is an overwhelming desire to have sex (thus reproduce) life could be an adequate portfolio. Unless you are refering to the lust that is more along the lines of desire than sex, in which Chaos just might be the correct choice. I suppose it depends on what type of deity it is thats using the portfolios.

Although the 1e Aphrodity is Chaotic Good, it seems kind of odd that she would get the chaos portfolio. And she's a pretty fair example of a diety of Lust, being the Greek Goddess of Passionate Love.

You should be careful not to let power control you, you're not Ao... yet!

BTW, is Ao considered head of the FR pantheon? Does he get WP for every god in the FR? What about the Mulhorandi pantheon? Does he get WP for them too or is this a separate pantheon?

What I actually meant was something alike perverted love, overwhelming desire for pleasure that leads into harming others, something like Slaanesh in Warhammer. Could there be Love and Evil together Upper Krust?

And is Thievery/Trickery portfolio more oriented towards stealth or manipulation? Is Intrigue another aspect of it? And I except to see Nightamares as acpect of Madness!

There are a lot of possible combinations, so I am confident people will be able to find ones to suit them. But if not, remember there is always the option of creating new Portfolios.

I think I have certainly covered all the main choices and hinted at both secondary aspects and combinations, but the list could never be totally inclusive.

Perhaps Love + Madness(?), but I would stick with Love + Chaos.

I think, as I mentioned above, probably either Chaos + Love (you could say the order in which they come in denotes their importance?) or maybe (?) Love + Madness.

Khorne: Chaos + War
Nurgle: Chaos + Disease
Tzeentch: Chaos (double)

Could there be Love and Evil together Upper Krust.

I favour the idea of any non-opposed portfolios being compatible; so you could end up with some bizarre combinations:

Entropy + Good: You seek the destruction of all to eradicate evil from the multiverse, at any cost. (eg. 'The Goddess' from the Marvel Universe).

Fire + Winter: A swathe of destruction is left in your wake, all before you will be bathed in the extremes of heat and cold (eg. Demodragon from the D&D cartoon).

Death + Peace: Only by surrendering to deaths embrace can you find eternal peace and tranquility. (eg. Off the top of my head no idea )

And is Thievery/Trickery portfolio more oriented towards stealth or manipulation? Is Intrigue another aspect of it? .

I see it more towards the goal of stealing/tricking, that could be something physical (money/possessions); emotional (hearts and minds); political (power and respect) etc. So its not really pidgeon-holed.

And I except to see Nightamares as acpect of Madness!.

Personally I would say hes the Overgod of the Concordant Opposition Plane.

But my own definition of Ao would likely differ from what WotC would say.

However, a number of fundamentals would need to be asked, for example Ao would gain no WP from beings he directly created.

Personally I would determine that the FR are a closed cosmology and that Ao as the ultimate head of all deities within that universe and as such would gain WP from every god. But it wouldn't make much difference considering every 10 greater gods would only increase his power by +1% (so he would probably get about a 5% boost in total.)

But I can imagine Mooon and Nature together! Actually Selune, only moon deity in Dungeons and Dragons I know,seems to be quite close to Nature and Nature Gods. How would you treat Selune, Talos and Malar in terms of portfolios? I would say Nature and Entropy/Destruction for Talos, however Malar could have Nature as well as Moon! Is Nature portfolio connected with both Animal and Plant domains?
