D&D (2024) They butchered the warlock in the new packet

Hm, I wonder if it would be too much to keep this new warlock as it is mostly but make the spell progression like a full caster and just…cut off the spell slot levels at 5th.

Maybe that would be a compromise of letting you have the quicker spell progression like a full caster but still needing to invest in the Mystic Arcanum Invocation to get spells of 6th level or higher if you wish.

Yeah. I don't like long rests making it so I've only go three encounters before I start to suck and not be able to play the character I made. I want to be good doing as many or as few encounters in whatever span I want.
yeah, and I don’t want encounters to be meaningless because I am back at full power after each one, because my skills are per encounter.

Long rest is a good mechanic because it has consequences whether I use my best spell now, with per encounter there is no reason to not use everything every time.

Guess we are looking for different things

But if there were no short rests, all the classes would become too samey! We need distinct rest mechanics for different classes to help make them different from each other.
nah, if the only thing that distinguishes them is how they rest, then get rid of one of the two.
If one class is identical to the other except that it is so based on 2 short rests over the day, then there is no need for it.

Everything on long rest, the difference has to come from somewhere else.

Do your characters never stop for lunch or dinner?
Depends on circumstances, hence 0 to 4, not 0 and that is it

Also, how many encounters do you have between dinner and the full rest? To me that usually counts as 0 as nothing happens in between

I could see that as a compromise

Not every adventure is set on a 9-5 workday with two 15-minute breaks and a half-hour lunch. Some adventures are on time schedules, some in places where resting isn't an option, and plenty are set up where if the PCs can take a rest, they can take a long rest.

It's fine to have short rest recharges on minor abilities, but a warlock's bread-and-butter (spells) should never have been beholden to type of adventure the DM is running.
The warlock’s bread and butter are their cantrips and invocations. Their leveled spells are their big nova option.
