One concern that I don't see on the list: the main problem with 3E is that characters start too powerful and gain additional power exponentially. My only concern, now that I've had a chance to digest the news, is that this problem seems to have been further exacerbated. I'm disturbed by the main complaints which seem to be that classes haven't been souped-up even more; if there's anything 3.5E is missing, it's that classes need to be souped-down.

I guess I'm a true software geek (makes sense since I'm a programmer)...I like 3.5, but it does it make it difficult for people who are used to writing 3E...maybe 3E5. Glad it's not up to me.

I do have one beef about the "revised" 3ed Ed. I think its too soon to be coming out with a revsion like this. With AD+D second, it was at least 5 years before TSR put out revised core books. When the new ones come out, it will be 3 years. I really hope Wizards does not think RPG's are like M:TG where the put out a new core set every few years. If they do another "revsion" In another couple of years, I'm switching to Hackmaster.

Ok, let me get this straight.

Youve been using 3e for 3 years if you started playing when it first came out.

You think 3 years is too early to revise the system that youve been using since it took the "great people" of TSR 5 years to release a revised 2e.

I mean, youre upset that Wizards is updating your game FASTER than TSR did; it is pretty incomprehensible for me. Would they do better to only update every decade? Would that be an improvement over 2e? What about new players (stuck with frontloaded rangers, weak bards, et al)? What about obvious flaws in the system?

Just keep writing it down in the eratta and D&D faq files, its not "time" to release a new version yet.

Bleh.

If you look at other RPG companies, like White Wolf, in 3-4 years, it's not a revision but a new edition.

The release of the revision won't prevent you from continuing to play 3e. The only problem may be if you want to buy more books and you fear 3eR-compatible books won't be usable without 3eR core books. But if you're going to buy books, you may buy core books, and if you have no money, you have no money for sourcebook neither, hey ?

If anything, still, the new mechanics will be put in the SRD. Except maybe the Red Wizard, I don't think there will be new material in the revised core books that will be kept outside of the revised SRD. And anyway, third-party books won't reference closed-content.

Technik4, Its the fact that Wizards has done this with most of they're other card games. that may work for card games, but NOT for RPG's IMO. If people have to buy new core books every 3 years they will get upset. Understandably so.
