Those DND minis

I just picked up an entry pack and am pretty pleased. For the price, these are definatley worth it to me. We painted minis for the characters at the start of the campaign, but I just don't have time to keep it up and lately I've been mostly using counters for all of the opponents.

At any rate, a few of them had bent weapons. I could've sworn someone posted an easy way to straighten them out without weakening the plastic too much, but I don't see it here in the thread. Any ideas?

The plastic used is very bendable. I had some gnolls that looked like they were about to fall forward. I just bent them all the way back, held them that way for a little while, released them, repeated a couple times and now they look right. I wouldn't worry too much about breaking the plastic. Except on the uber-thin pieces, this stuff will stand up to the abuse.

My problem is on one of the uber-thin pieces, the orc spearfighter. The head on his "spear" (it looks more like a halberd to me) is so heavy that it causes the whole weapon to droop down, and I can't figure out how to get it to stay straight. Any ideas?

Supposedly heating them under an incandescent desk lamp then holding them while they cool works. But be careful, you don't want to start a fire or melt your minis.

If I can remember correctly, someone had mentioned sinking the miniature into boiling water for only a couple of seconds. Something about the vinyl reforming 'from memory'.. Basically it goes back to how it came out of the mold.

I haven't a clue if this works, but best try it with one of the common ones to see if the paints holds up, and if the miniature simply turns to soup (Mmmm.. Dead Orc vinyl soup).

It might also work if the miniature is held under the hot water tap for a few moments. Lord knows, the paint is so thick on the things that you couldn't get through it with a hammer, so I wouldn't worry too much about it coming off.

Incidentally, does anyone know how to remove the paint from Vinyls? Plastics are one thing, but vinyl might get eaten by anything more chemically filled than water :P

I just recieved mine today. I only bought an entry pack and this is what I got:

Orc Spearfighter
Half-Orc Assassin
Dwarf Axefighter
Wight
Hellhound
Human Bandit
Kuo-Toa
Elf Pyromancer
Jozan, Cleric of Pelor
Zombie
Hyena
Ghoul
Man-at-Arms
Elf Ranger
Orc Berserker
Gnome Recruit

Out of these, the Elf Pyromancer, the Orc Spearfighter and the Dwarf Axeman look the best, with the Ghoul, the Wight and the Half-Orc Assassin looking crappy. Still, the battle grid and terrain cards are nice, and I will be buying more.

Thanks for the answers about unbending things.

Here's a question for someone who's picked up more than one starter pack -- am I correct that the terrain tiles always the same?

And in the booster packs, there is nothing included except for the minis themselves and the stat cards, right?

I got one box the other day. My rare was a mind flayer. I liked them. I can't paint so I'll be getting more when I get some cash. I think they're a good idea.

I don't know if I'll be playing the miniatures game but I hope I get enough humanoid figures to have a good sized set.

I also hope they make giants. Those would be cool.

THe mind flayer could get you a decent army of humanoid men if you go to www.maxminis.com and trade. Right now everyone seems to want a mind flayer, but if you don't you can get a lot for it. Also a lot of info there on the product- no giants but you can see pics of Ogres and such.
