Tiefling as a core race?

That's screwy, and I can't say that I like it. Why are demon-spawned children suddenly as common as elves and dwarves in the "default" world of D&D?

My first 3e character was a tiefling.

I kind of like this, actually. Hopefully they'll have more races in the PHB, like goliaths.

If I were designing 4th edition, I'd immediately get rid of all "half" races. Races would not be able to breed with each other. This would cut down on the rules (which is nice), and would perhaps make racial warfare or racial hatred more reasonable.

I gotta say, I'm pretty put-off by the idea of Tieflings as a PC race. And am I the only one that sees a similarity (perhaps not coincidental) between the new Tiefling pics and the Dranei?

because racial hatred and racial warfare does not exist at all in real world.
In fact, I think the ability to breed makes them even more likely... If the guy with pointy ears can seduce or rape your wife and make her a child...

I like having the Tiefling in...gives a little more flavour beyond the 'traditional' fantasy races in the book.

Course, I'm a fan of Aasimar moreso and would love if they were in...but no one loves the good guys.

I think you misunderstand the scale of "warfare" and "hatred": Certainly in real life there is sometimes flare-ups of racial war...

Think about how humans get along with any creature they cannot breed with. For the most part, other creatures are killed, domesticated, hunted for sport, eaten, captured for entertainment, or, if they are lucky, they are completely ignored.

There is a world of difference between how your average person feels about a person of a different race, and how the average person feels about a tiger, an elephant, or a monkey.
